Bullets Tumble Twice at Haverford

Gettysburg drops 3-1 decision to hosts

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Gettysburg opened its evening with a victory in its first set, but that would be the lone positive outcome as the Bullets dropped the next three sets to host Haverford College before falling 3-0 at the hands of New York University.

Gettysburg (5-9, 1-1 CC) dropped its first Centennial Conference match of the year to four-time defending champion Haverford (5-7, 1-0 CC). After opening with a 25-19 win, the Bullets dropped the next three sets 25-19, 25-22, and 25-23.

Junior Virginia Hogan (Alpharetta, Ga./Chattahoochee) led Gettysburg with a dozen kills and posted a dozen digs. Freshman Sarah Gorski (Darien, Conn./Darien) established a new personal mark with 10 kills, while senior Nicole Burns (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro) tallied seven kills and five total blocks. Freshman setter Lizzy Kuhn (Wilmington, Del./Archmere Academy) put down seven kills, dished out 34 assists, and put up 15 digs.

The Bullets' night didn't get any easier with perennial national power NYU in the nightcap. The Violets posted an attack percentage of .327 and served up 15 aces in the match. NYU won by scores of 25-13, 25-23, and 25-16.

Gorski was Gettysburg's top offensive producer with six kills and Hogan added five. Kuhn posted five service aces to go with 18 assists and junior libero Rebecca Rubenstein (Bedford Hills, N.Y./Fox Lane) tallied 11 digs.

Gettysburg heads to Elizabethtown College for a two-day tournament this Friday and Saturday. The Bullets begin play on Friday against the University of Mary Washington at 3:30 p.m.
