GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Senior center Andrew Powers tallied a game-high 24 points to go with seven rebounds and four assists and Gettysburg held Swarthmore College to 28.8 percent shooting en route to a 59-43 Centennial Conference victory Monday evening in Bream Gymnasium.

The win was the third in a row for Gettysburg (7-6, 4-2 CC), which led from start to finish. The Bullets led by as much as 28 midway through the second half but managed only three foul shots over the final 11 minutes.

The Bullets, who out-rebounded Swarthmore 44-25, held an opponent to sub-30 percent shooting for the first time since McDaniel College shot 29.8 percent in Gettysburg's 62-37 win on Jan. 20 of last season.

Powers shot 11-for-16 from the field and made his first two 3-pointers of the season, going 2-for-3 from beyond the arc. His final assist of the night moved him into third on the school's all-time assist list, and he now has 242 for his career.

Senior forward Kevin Kennedy contributed 10 points and a season-high eight rebounds while junior guard Brendan Trelease tied a season-high with nine points and grabbed five boards. Senior Paul Crone notched seven points and five rebounds.

Sophomore forward Will Gates led Swarthmore (4-9, 1-5 CC) with 20 points while freshman forward Jay Kober finished with 12 points.

The Bullets came out on fire, making nine of their first 10 shots while building a 21-7 lead seven and a half minutes into the game. Powers accounted for nine points during the run, including his first 3-pointer of the year, while Crone and Kennedy scored five apiece.

Kober hit a 3 for the Garnet with 11:22 left before both teams went cold, with neither side scoring for the next five minutes. Gates snapped Swarthmore's drought when he hit a free throw with 6:02 on the clock to make it 21-11, and Jordan Federer knocked down a jumper for the Garnet to narrow the deficit to 21-13. Kennedy ended Gettysburg's eight-minute dry spell when he connected from long range with 4:21 showing to put the Bullets up 24-13.

Kennedy's trey kicked off a 15-5 run to end the half. Powers scored eight points during the run, including the final six, as the Bullets carried a 36-18 lead into the half.

Powers posted 17 points, five rebounds, and four assists in the opening period while Kennedy notched 10 points and five rebounds. The Bullets shot 50.0 percent in the first half while holding Swarthmore to 24.1 percent shooting.

Gettysburg continued to stay hot coming out in the second half, outscoring Swarthmore 14-5 to start the period, with a baby hook from senior center Scott Peterson giving the Bullets a 50-23 lead with 14:50 left.

Sophomore guard Larry Geedey scored Gettysburg's last field goal when he dropped in a lay-up with 11:15 showing to make it 56-28. Swarthmore then scored 11 straight points to pull to within 17 (56-37) after a Gates trey with 3:59 showing; however, the visitors were unable to get any closer before Federer knocked down a 3 with six seconds left to set the final score.

Gettysburg returns to action on Thursday, when it visits Ursinus College at 8 p.m. in another Centennial Conference affair.
