GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Gettysburg College volleyball team remained perfect in Centennial Conference play this fall by dispatching Bryn Mawr College in three sets Saturday afternoon inside Bream Gym. In the second match of the day, the Bullets just missed pulling off the upset of 20th-ranked SUNY Cortland, succumbing in five sets.
Gettysburg (16-8, 6-0 CC) had no issues with Bryn Mawr (9-13, 3-3 CC) with scores of 25-15, 25-10, and 25-16. The hosts had runs of 10 and 11 points in sets one and two, respectively, while leading by as many as 10 in the final frame. The Bullets remained tied with Johns Hopkins University (16-4, 6-0 CC) for the top spot in the conference standings with the win.
Senior
Virginia Hogan posted a match-high 12 kills in the victory over Bryn Mawr, while senior
Katie McConville and sophomore
Sarah Gorski each put down seven kills. Senior
Rebecca Rubenstein led the defensive effort with 18 digs.
Gettysburg came out firing against Cortland (29-1), hitting .519 in the opening set en route to a 25-17 win. The Red Dragons took the next two frames 25-15 and 25-17 before the Bullets pulled even 25-21. Playing its fourth five-set match in 11 days, Gettysburg came up short in the finale 15-8.
Hogan continued her offensive assault with her 10th consecutive double-figure kill effort. She posted 13 kills against Cortland, while also contributing 10 digs, four aces, and five total blocks.
Sophomore
Courtney Cyr notched seven kills and Gorski added six. Rubenstein once again led the defensive effort with 25 digs, and sophomore setter
Lizzy Kuhn added 20 assists and 10 digs.
Gettysburg travels to McDaniel College for its next match on Wednesday, Oct. 19, at 7 p.m.
