Box Score

LEXINGTON, Va. – Gettysburg held Juniata to 18 second-half points, but it wasn't enough to overcome a 17-2 Eagle run to end the opening period as the Bullets lost by a count of 59-45 in the first round of the Washington & Lee Tournament Thursday afternoon in men's basketball action.

Gettysburg (4-5), playing for the first time in 22 days, will now face Methodist University in the consolation game on Friday at 2 p.m. Washington & Lee University defeated Methodist 83-57 in the other first-round game and will face off with Juniata in the championship game at 4 p.m.

Freshman guard Joe Emerusabe scored 13 points off the bench on 5-of-10 shooting to lead Gettysburg. Ten of the 11 Bullets who entered the game found their way into the scoring column, but none other than Emerusabe scored more than five points.

Bullet leading scorer Alex Zurn was limited to just 21 minutes due to foul trouble and fouled out with 5:33 remaining, finishing with four points.

Sophomore guard Jeremy Hays led Juniata (9-2) with 17 points, including 15 in the first half, while junior guard Alex Raymond (11 points) and sophomore guard Kevin Stapleton (10 points) also reached double figures in scoring.

It was just the second meeting between the two programs since 1990-91, and Juniata earned its first win over the Bullets since the 1989-90 campaign.

Gettysburg led just once, when it was 8-7. However, the Eagles never led by more than four leading up to their decisive run to close the stanza. A lay-up from freshman center Christian Healy pulled the Bullets to within 24-22 with 7:29 on the clock, but Gettysburg managed only a pair of free throws from freshman guard JoJo Savaglio the rest of the half, as Juniata took a 41-24 lead into the break.

Juniata's lead reached 21 early in the second half before the Bullets used a 10-0 spurt to make it 51-40 on a lay-up from junior center Benjamin Constable with 8:28 remaining. However, Juniata quelled the threat by scoring nine unanswered points over the next 4:17.

The Bullets held the Eagles to 31.8 percent shooting in the second half.
