Sixth-ranked Bullets Turn Back Dickinson

Church nets 100th career point in 13-6 win

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Junior Hannah Church recorded her 100th career point and was one of three Bullets to net a hat trick as sixth-ranked Gettysburg downed Dickinson College 13-6 at Clark Field on Tuesday night.

Church reached the career milestone with her third goal with 1:05 to play in the game. Sophomore Haley Stauch and freshman Loren Pruitt also posted three goals for Gettysburg (6-1, 3-0 CC), while senior goalkeeper Laura McIntyre posted a season-high eight saves.

It was a low-scoring affair to start, but Gettysburg netted each of the first four goals, including back-to-back tosses by Pruitt. The hosts had several more opportunities go awry as Dickinson goalie Jessie Clark made a series of point-blank stops.

Dickinson (4-7, 1-2 CC) finally broke the egg at 3:51 with a free-position goal by Taryn Abbassian. That's where the score stood as the teams went into halftime.

Gettysburg struck early in the second session as freshman Katie Blumenthal scored just 14 seconds into the period. The hosts threw in five of the first six goals of the second half with the last by Pruitt at 19:18 putting the score at 8-2.

The Red Devils cut into the deficit with four of the next five goals. Clare Manoli's second goal at 1:48 sliced the margin to 10-6. However, Gettysburg turned up the heat by winning three-straight draw controls and turning each into a score.

Gettysburg finished with a 34-16 edge in shots, a 21-11 edge in ground balls, and a 13-8 edge in draw controls.

Freshman Kelsey Markiewicz added one goal and one assist for the hosts, while sophomore Lindsey Robinson put up one goal and two helpers.

Senior Becky Lutz harassed the Red Devils all over the field and finished with a career-high seven caused turnovers to go with three ground balls and two draw controls. Sophomore defender Mairead McGuirk helped Gettysburg control the game with six draw controls, while sophomore Kat Nestor scooped up four ground balls.
