COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus scored the game-winning run in its final at bat of the opener and then hit for all of its offense in the fifth inning of game two to clinch a sweep of Gettysburg in Centennial Conference softball action on Sunday.
Ursinus (12-10, 5-2 CC) brought across the go-ahead run on a double with one out in the seventh frame of the opener to pick up a 4-3 win over Gettysburg (13-11, 3-3 CC). The Bullets struck early for a pair of runs to take the early lead in the finale, but the Bears' offense clicked in the fifth with five runs en route to a 5-3 victory.
Ursinus took advantage of an error to open game one, bringing across its first three runs on a pair of doubles. Junior
Lanie Parr settled in after that, allowing just three hits over the next five innings.
Gettysburg finally cracked the scoring column in the fifth as freshman
Abby Ferguson connected on her second homer of the season over the fence in left-center.
The visitors tacked on two more runs in the sixth with two outs. After an error and a walk to start the frame, Ursinus nearly escaped the jam by getting two easy outs, but sophomore
Sam Bader slammed a double to left-center to bring home the runners and tie the score.
Ursinus set up its game-winning tally with a walk to start the seventh inning. After a sacrifice moved the runner to second, Emelie McFarland doubled to right-center for the walk-off.
Parr took the loss after giving up four runs (one earned) on six hits and seven walks. Bader was the only Bullet with multiple hits, going 2-for-3.
After three scoreless innings where each team managed just one hit, Gettysburg struck for game two's first run in the fourth. Senior
Caitlin Bay led off the frame with a double, but was later thrown out trying to score on a single to left. The Bullets scored on the next play as junior
Catrina DelGais singled to left field.
The visitors added another run in the fifth as senior
Megan Lott connected on her third home run of the season to left.
Ursinus used the longball to answer Gettysburg's call in the bottom of the frame as Abby Sido hit a two-run shot. Two more runs came across later in the frame on a triple by Alison Pfrommer and a passed ball led to Pfrommer scoring the host's final tally.
Gettysburg tried to rally in its final at bat as two singles and an error brought the score to 5-3, but Caitlin Whelan got Bay to ground out to third base to close the game.
Gettysburg out-hit Ursinus 10-7 in the nightcap, but the visitors couldn't capitalize with five runners left on base. Sophomore
Joy Hallfors, Bader, and Lott each posted a pair of base knocks for the Bullets.

Taylor Snyder took the loss after giving up five runs (four earned) on seven hits and one walk, while striking out two.
Gettysburg returns home for its next contest against Dickinson College on Tuesday, April 12, at 3 p.m.
