Box Score

BALTIMORE – Gettysburg ripped a season-high 14 hits and tied a season-best with nine runs, but the Bullets dropped a 10-9 decision to host Johns Hopkins University on a walk-off single Thursday afternoon in Centennial Conference play.

With runners on first and second and one out, Kyle Neverman drove in the game-winning run for the Blue Jays (15-10, 8-3 CC), who rallied from 5-0 and 8-7 deficits.

For the second straight game, all but one starter hit safely for the Bullets (9-17, 3-8 CC). Junior Drew Roy, making his second start in the outfield this season, went 2-for-5 with a home run and tied a career-high with four RBIs while senior Matt Karis was 3-for-3 with three runs. Junior Clint O'Brien had three RBIs while freshman Patrick O'Grady, sophomore Pat Cody, and freshman Tommy LeNoir each had two hits and a double.

Senior starter Kyle Conklin came away with a no-decision for the Bullets despite not allowing an earned run in six innings of work. In total, three Gettysburg errors led to nine unearned runs.

The Bullets jumped on Hopkins starter Kevin Gillen with a four-run second, getting a two-run single from O'Brien and a two-run homer from Roy. Gillen left the game after O'Brien drew a bases-loaded walk, but reliever Lucas Henneman got the next two outs as the Blue Jays avoided further damage.

Johns Hopkins then ran off seven straight runs, getting three in the third and four in the sixth to take a 7-5 lead. However, the Bullets battled back with three in the seventh to go back in front, 8-7. LeNoir doubled in a run before Roy knocked in two more with a single to chase reliever Chip Harsh. Aaron Schwartz then got a pair of outs to end the inning.

Johns Hopkins pushed across a pair of unearned runs in the seventh against reliever Brett Norton on a two-run triple from Mike Musary to go ahead 9-8 before the Bullets tied it in the eighth on a Cody double.

After Schwartz worked a three-up, three-down ninth, Steve Bejsiuk doubled leading off the bottom of the inning. After Norton struck out the No. 9 hitter, Musary drew a walk before Neverman's game-winner.

Schwartz (3-1) picked up the win, going 2 2/3 innings, striking out three and giving up one run on one hit and one walk. Norton (1-4) took the loss, allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits and one walk while fanning two. Conklin struck out five while yielding seven unearned runs on 10 hits and one walk.

The two teams return to action on Friday when they meet in Gettysburg for another nine-inning game starting at 3:30 p.m.
