GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Freshman Maggie Maguire smashed Gettysburg College's single-season home run record to help the Bullets salvage a split with Dickinson College at Bobby Jones Field on Thursday.

Gettysburg (14-12, 4-4 CC) forced extra innings in the opener, but fell short with a 5-4 loss in nine innings against Dickinson (10-15, 6-4 CC). The Bullets wasted no time in the finale, putting up 10 runs in the first three innings and finishing with a 10-1 victory in five innings.

Maguire established a new program mark in the third inning of the nightcap of the finale. After Adrienne Rahs doubled in a pair of runners, the Gettysburg third baseman pulverized the offering from pitcher Liz Barry over the left-field fence for her seventh home run of the spring. She broke the previous record of six shared by Stef Mastropaolo '03 and Erin Ober '09. The homer capped a productive day at the plate for the first-year, who went 4-for-4 with a triple, two walks, a hit-by-pitch, two runs, and five RBI.

Maguire nearly established the mark in the fourth inning of the opener. After Dickinson scored in its first at bat and then picked up a two-run home run by Emma Murtaugh in the third inning, Maguire broke up Allison Jordan's no-hit bid by hitting a ball off the plastic covering on top of the left-field fence for a triple. Gettysburg was unable to bring her home, however, and the Red Devils added another run in the fifth to go up 4-0.

The hosts finally hit pay-dirt in the sixth as Maguire, sophomore Sam Bader, and senior Caitlin Bay each rapped two-out RBI singles to pull the score to 4-3.

Another two-out rally was in store in the home half of the seventh, started by sophomore Joy Hallfors lining a double to left. Junior Catrina DelGais followed with a grounder up the middle that the second baseman initially bobbled before throwing late to first. The error allowed Hallfors to blaze around third base and slide safely into home to tie the game.

Gettysburg put a pair of runners on base with one out in the eighth but was unable to convert. In Dickinson's ensuing at bat, the Red Devils posted a pair of singles and a walk to load the bases before Alesha Sisco drew another walk to bring home the go-ahead run. DelGais singled with two outs in the home half, but Jordan got Rahs to pop up to shortstop to end the game.

Junior Lanie Parr took the loss to fall to 7-6 on the year. She pitched all nine innings, allowing five runs on 12 hits and six walks, while striking out five. DelGais finished 3-for-5 and Bay was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Despite a first-inning home run by Murtaugh, game two belonged to Gettysburg. After scoring on an outfield error in the first, the hosts put four more runs on the board in the second. DelGais and Maguire provided the offense with a pair of bases-loaded singles to plate four runs.

The Bullets padded the lead in the third with five more runs on five hits. DelGais singled through the left side to plate a run and came around to score on Rahs' double to center field. That set the stage for Maguire's record-breaking home run.

Sophomore Taylor Snyder improved to 7-6 this season with the victory. She allowed just one run on three hits with three strikeouts.

Gettysburg pounded out 13 hits in the nightcap with two each coming from Hallfors, DelGais, Maguire, Bader, and Lott. DelGais posted three RBI and Maguire drove in four.

The Bullets bounce back tomorrow with a doubleheader at home against Washington College at 3:15 p.m.
