GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Junior Lanie Parr allowed only four hits in a game-two shutout and senior Caitlin Bay drove in four runs to help Gettysburg pick up a split in a Centennial Conference doubleheader with visiting Washington College on Friday evening.

Gettysburg's (15-13, 5-5 CC) rally fell short in the opener as Washington (18-16, 9-5 CC) held on for a 5-3 victory. The Bullets bounced back in the nightcap as Parr allowed just four hits and a walk, while striking out four for her fourth shutout this spring.

The Shorewomen capitalized on a pair of errors by the hosts in the opening inning of game one to bring across two runs. The visitors added three more in the fourth with doubles by Lauren Dockrill, Leigh Carbutt, and Kylie Nottingham with no outs. Further damage was prevented, however, as Parr posted a pair of strikeouts before a sharp liner landed safely in the glove of center fielder Joy Hallfors.

Gettysburg finally filled in the scoring column in its following at bat as Bay singled through the right side to plate a run. The Bullets tacked on another tally in the sixth before waking up the rally monkey in home half of the seventh. The hosts loaded up the bases to force a Washington pitching change. The change was ineffective at first as a wild pitch plated a run to make it 5-3.

After a walk to Adrienne Rahs loaded the bases again, freshman Maggie Maguire worked the count to 3-2 before blasting a rocket down the third-base line. Third baseman Sally Snover had the ball played perfectly as it took a short skip into her glove right by the bag for the force out.

In game two, Washington was on the verge of breaking the game open in the second inning by loading the bases with one out. Once again, Parr worked out of a jam, first getting a strikeout and then inducing a grounder which led to an interference call on the runner heading to third base.

The Bullets busted out in the bottom of the inning with Bay posting an RBI single. One batter later, senior Megan Lott knocked a double to left field to plate Bay and give Gettysburg a 2-0 advantage.

Bay picked up another RBI in the third inning by drawing a bases-loaded walk to make it 3-0. In the fourth, Lott notched a lead-off double and scored on an error by the second baseman. Maguire provided the finishing touch with a run-scoring bloop single into left field.

Bay finished 2-for-5 with four RBI on the day. Lott was 3-for-6 with two doubles, while Maguire, and sophomore Sam Bader, and Hallfors each tallied two hits.

Gettysburg heads to Muhlenberg College for its next series on Sunday, April 17, at 1 p.m.
