SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Susquehanna University kept its winning ways intact by sweeping a non-conference twinbill from visiting Gettysburg College on Thursday. The Crusaders extended their win streak to 10 games with 1-0 and 7-2 decisions.

Gettysburg (13-9) had no answer for Susquehanna's (18-4) dominant pitching as the visitors totaled just eight hits and no earned runs in the two games. Cara Swerdlow struck out 11 batters and gave up only four hits to earn a shutout in the opening game and become the program's all-time wins leader.

The Crusaders tallied the game's only run in the fifth inning as Brennan Balfour posted an infield single and came around to score on a double by Brittany Devlin.

The Bullets threatened to score in their final at bat, putting a pair or runners on second and third following an error, a single, and a passed ball, but Swerdlow got out of the jam with a harmless pop-up to second base.

Junior Lanie Parr was tabbed with the loss in an otherwise good performance as she allowed one run on nine hits and three walks while striking out seven. Sophomore Katie Lang accounted for half of the visitor's hits with a 2-for-3 day at the plate.

After two-and-a-half quiet innings, Susquehanna dropped seven runs in the bottom of the third inning of the nightcap. Kathryn Gilbert reached on an error to start the inning and the Crusaders followed up with six consecutive hits to break the game open.

Gettysburg turned in two runs in the following inning off an RBI groundout by sophomore Sam Bader and an RBI single by freshman Abby Ferguson, but that would end the offensive display for the day as Ferguson tallied the visitor's only hit – a double in the seventh – over the remaining three innings.

Sarah Hoffman picked up the win for Susquehanna, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out two. Sophomore Taylor Snyder was saddled with the loss after giving up seven runs (four earned) on 10 hits and two walks.

Gettysburg returns to the diamond this Saturday, April 9, with a Centennial Conference doubleheader at Ursinus College beginning at 1 p.m.
