King's Box Score | Salisbury Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg opened the year with a dominating win over King's College, but the Bullets couldn't make it two-for-two on the volleyball court as Salisbury University pulled off a 3-1 win on the opening day of the Battlefield Classic.

Gettysburg (1-1) turned in one of its biggest set wins in recent memory to open against King's (0-2). After the Bullets jumped out to a 7-2 advantage, freshman Cydney Bracken served the final 18 points, racking up nine service aces along the way. The hosts won the final two sets 25-15 and 25-21 to earn the win.

Sophomore Sarah Gorski posted 10 kills and senior Virginia Hogan knocked down eight to pace Gettysburg. Senior libero Rebecca Rubenstein led the defense with 11 digs.

Salisbury's big front line put a halt to Gettysburg's winning ways with a four-set decision to close the night. After dropping the first two sets 25-17, the Bullets bounced back with a win by the same score in the third frame. The Sea Gulls halted the comeback by slipping past 26-24 in the fourth set.

Hogan and Bracken each recorded a dozen kills for the Bullets while senior Katie McConville put down nine attempts. Sophomore Lizzy Kuhn handed out 28 assists and Rubenstein put up 24 digs.

Gettysburg continues play at the Battlefield Classic on Saturday with matches against the University of Scranton and Eastern University at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
