Bullets Fall 79-70 at Muhlenberg

Trelease Leads Bullets With 18 Points

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Gettysburg erased an eight-point halftime deficit, but host Muhlenberg College used a 14-0 run midway through the second half to pull away for a 79-70 victory in a Centennial Conference men's basketball game Saturday afternoon in Memorial Hall.

Senior guard Brendan Trelease led the Bullets (7-8, 4-4 CC) with a season-high 18 points, making a career-high six 3-pointers on nine attempts. Junior guard Alex Zurn added 15 points while freshman guard Joe Emerusabe contributed 14 points. Junior center Christian Bors scored 10 points while freshman guard Sean Gordon had seven points and five assists.

Malique Killing scored 27 points and went 13-for-13 at the foul line for Muhlenberg (10-4, 4-4 CC), which went 19-for-20 at the charity stripe, while Spencer Liddic finished with 22 points and eight rebounds. Austin Curry added 12 points for the Mules.

The Bullets scored the first six points of the game, but Muhlenberg opened up a gap when a 10-2 run gave the hosts a 26-19 lead with 7:20 left in the first half. Liddic converted a lay-up just before the horn to put the Mules up 37-29 at the break.

Gettysburg came out hot in the second stanza, and a 13-5 run – capped by a 3-pointer from Gordon – gave the visitors a 42-41 lead with 15:43 to go. But that's when the Mules run off 14 unanswered points to assume a 55-42 advantage, and their lead would not dip below eight the rest of the way.

Emerusabe made it 71-63 with a jumper at the 1:09 mark, but the Killing salted the game away at the foul line, where he made six straight free throws the rest of the way.

The Bullets made a season-high 12 3-pointers and posted a season-low nine turnovers for the second game in a row.

Gettysburg hosts McDaniel College on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in another Centennial Conference match-up.
