GETTYSBURG, Pa. – McDaniel College scored the final three goals and held off a late charge by the Bullets to pick up a 4-2 victory in the Centennial Conference men's soccer finale for both teams on Saturday.
McDaniel (6-10-1, 2-7 CC) and Gettysburg (6-10-1, 1-7-1 CC) combined for six goals in the first 46:23. The Green Terror struck first, capitalizing on a foul in the box as Ben Eveler kicked home the penalty kick at 7:16.
The Bullets countered with a pair of back-to-back goals set up by junior
Brooks Taylor. After Gettysburg earned a free kick just outside the box, Taylor touched the ball off to his left for classmate
Tyler Shaffer who knocked in his third goal of the campaign at 17:08. Just under four minutes later, Taylor set up freshman
Noah Sheetz-Ziegel in front of the goal for the first-year's team-best fourth goal of the season.
McDaniel retook the lead shortly after with a pair of goals just 1:12 apart. Raymond Boly posted the game-tying goal, banging a shot off the crossbar that caromed off goalie
Jamie Hahn (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) into the net at 22:56. At 24:08, Max Rutherford polished off a deflected ball into the box for a 3-2 lead.
The visitors would tack on an insurance goal early in the second period with Richard Forka lofting a shot over Hahn's arms into the left corner of the cage at 46:23.
Gettysburg out-shot McDaniel 14-5 in the final period, but Green Terror keeper Zach Nibbelink was up to the task with five of his match-high seven saves. Hahn finished the contest with five saves.
Gettysburg finished with a 22-16 shot advantage. Shaffer paced the team with four attempts, while Sheetz-Ziegel and
Kyle Franks each tallied three.
