GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Senior forward
Alex Zurn scored a game- and season-high 22 points, but Gettysburg dropped a 55-44 decision to York (Pa.) College in non-conference men's basketball action Sunday afternoon in Bream Gymnasium.
Gettysburg (2-2) turned in a strong defensive performance, holding the Spartans (1-3) to 36.5 percent shooting. However, The Bullets shot 33.3 percent, including 24.1 percent in the second half in which they were outscored 22-17.
Senior forward Todd Maciejewski led York with 16 points and 15 rebounds while Mike Matthews added 13 points and seven rebounds for the Spartans.
Zurn also led the Bullets with eight rebounds while sophomore guard

Sean Gordon added six rebounds and four assists while sophomore center
Christian Healy grabbed a career-high six boards. Senior guard
Derek Brooks contributed four assists.
The Spartans jumped to an 11-5 lead with 15:33 left in the opening half before the Bullets chipped away. An up-and-under from Zurn tied it at 17-all with 10:07 to go before Gordon gave Gettysburg its first lead (22-21) since it was 1-0 when he buried a 3-pointer with 7:24 showing.
A put-back from Healy tied it at 24-24 with 5:37 left in the half, but the Spartans ended the period on a 9-3 run to take a 33-27 lead at the break.
York scored a pair of buckets in the first minute of the second half before both teams would hit a cold stretch. Neither side would score until Zurn threw down an alley-oop dunk off a pass from Brooks with 14:24 showing to make it 37-29.
The Bullets would pull to within seven (42-35) on a Zurn lay-in with 11:21 to go, but were unable to get any closer the rest of the way. Back-to-back 3-pointers 2:42 apart gave the Spartans their biggest lead of the game at 48-35 with 8:21 left.
Zurn pulled the Bullets to within 52-44 with 49 seconds left, but York shot 5-for-7 at the foul line in the final minute to clinch its victory.
Gettysburg continues its season on Thursday, when it hosts Johns Hopkins University at 8 p.m. in a Centennial Conference match-up.
