GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg made the most of its first taste of Centennial Conference action this spring by sweeping visiting Swarthmore College inside the friendly confines of Bobby Jones Field on Saturday afternoon.

Junior Sam Bader highlighted a five-run sixth with a bases-clearing triple to lift Gettysburg (10-7, 2-0 CC) to a 7-5 win in the opening game. In the nightcap, junior Taylor Snyder  surrendered only one run on the mound and senior Adrienne Rahs blasted a three-run homer as part of a 7-1 decision.

Despite picking up the first run via an error in the fourth inning, the Bullets fell behind in the first game as the Garnet struck for four runs in the top of the fourth. Kate Smayda provided half the offense with a two-run single to right field.

Trailing 5-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth, the Gettysburg bats came alive. Junior Katie Lang started the rally with a lead-off triple. She came around to score on a ground-out later in the inning. Rahs pulled the hosts to 5-4 with a bloop single to center field and a walk to clean-up hitter Maggie Maguire loaded the bags for Bader's game-winning double.

Senior Lanie Parr set the Garnet down 1-2-3 in the top of the seventh to secure the victory. She allowed five runs (three earned) on seven hits and struck out eight in the game.

Freshman Melissa Tighe was a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs scored in the opening game. Rahs and senior Catrina DelGais each finished 2-for-4, the former finishing with two RBI.

Gettysburg never trailed in the opening game as back-to-back doubles by Rahs and Maguire accounted for the first run in the third inning. Bader brought in two more with a triple to center two batters later.

Swarthmore picked up its lone run on a solo home run by Nicole Aaron in the top of the fourth, but the rest of the game belonged to the Bullets. DelGais doubled in a run with her 100th career hit in the top of the fifth. In the sixth, Rahs blasted a two-out, three-run bomb to center field for her fourth home run of the spring.

Snyder improved to 5-2 on the season after allowing just one run on five hits with one strikeout. Maguire posted three hits and scored a pair of runs, while Tighe, Rahs, DelGais, and Bader all recorded two hits. Rahs connected on her 36th career double in the nightcap and moved into a tie for first place on Gettysburg's all-time list.

Gettysburg bounces back into action tomorrow (April 1) with a conference doubleheader at home against Muhlenberg College at 1 p.m.
