CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Gettysburg took advantage of six Washington errors for a 7-3 victory in the second game of a Centennial Conference doubleheader on Saturday. The Shorewomen won the opener 9-2.
With the split, both Gettysburg (16-11, 7-3 CC) and Washington (16-15, 8-4 CC) each remained in the top four in the conference standings with just two weeks left in the regular season. Freshman
Lindsey Treanor won her eighth-consecutive decision on the mound for the Bullets, while junior
Joy Hallfors posted a pair of hits and two RBI in the nightcap.
Washington busted open game one with six runs in the fourth inning. Pitcher Kristin Cooper provided the initial blow with her team-best sixth home run of the season, a two-run shot to center field. Brittany Walter and Sally Snover added RBI doubles for the Shorewomen.
Gettysburg generated its offense in the following inning as freshman
Melissa Tighe doubled in a pair of runs. Cooper allowed only one more base runner after Tighe's double to close the victory.
Tighe finished with a pair of hits, while sophomore
Maggie Maguire posted a double and scored a run for Gettysburg.
Gettysburg came right back in game two with a run via a Washington error in the first inning. After the hosts tied it in the second inning, the visitors tacked on five runs with help from four errors in the third inning. Senior
Adrienne Rahs posted a run-scoring single and Hallfors doubled in two more runs to give Gettysburg a 6-1 lead.
Treanor improved to 8-2 this season by allowing just two runs on seven hits with three strikeouts. She helped her cause with hits in her final two plate appearances, including an RBI single in the fifth inning.
Gettysburg returns to the home diamond for its next affair against Franklin & Marshall College on Tuesday, April 17, at 3 p.m.
