COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Gettysburg defeated host Ursinus College 13-0 in the opener, but the Bears turned the tables with an 8-2 victory in the nightcap of a crucial Centennial Conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon.

Playing their final Centennial Conference games of the season, the Bullets (24-12, 10-8 CC) fell out of CC playoff contention. Gettysburg entered the day in a three-way tie with Dickinson College and Washington for third in the conference standings, and both Dickinson and Washington swept their doubleheaders.

Junior Ryan Taylor fired a six-hit shutout in the opener while tying a career-high with 12 strikeouts. Sophomore Al Posch had a record-breaking day at the plate, going 6-for-10 with three runs and three RBIs while setting Gettysburg single-season marks for hits (59) and at-bats (156). Sophomores Cam MacDonald and Nate Simon each went 4-for-8 on the afternoon.

It was a scoreless game through the first four innings of the opener before the Bullets scored all of their runs over the last five frames. Gettysburg scored one in the fifth and two apiece in the sixth and seventh before breaking it open with a six-run eighth, when Posch and senior Clint O'Brien each delivered a two-run single.

Taylor (5-3), in the meantime, was in control from start to finish. Though he had just two three-up, three-down innings, he allowed only two runners into scoring position, and neither advanced beyond second. Taylor, who only walked two, also struck out 12 against Ursinus in a one-hit shutout last season.

Posch finished 3-for-5 with three RBIs in the opener for Gettysburg, which outhit the Bears 16-6. Freshman Cory Karagjozi went 3-for-5 with three runs scored while sophomore Austin Davis was 2-for-5 with three RBIs. O'Brien, Simon, and MacDonald all had a pair of hits.

Starter Nate Schnell (3-3) went 6 1/3 innings for Ursinus (18-19, 7-9 CC) and suffered the loss.

Steve Christakos (2-3) went the distance in the nightcap for the Bears and scattered 11 hits. A pair of early errors led to four unearned runs over the second and third innings as Ursinus took a 4-0 lead against Bullet starter Drew Felsenthal.

Ursinus tacked on one in the fourth and two in the sixth against reliever Brett Harrington to assume a 7-0 lead before Gettysburg scored twice in the eighth on a two-run single from Simon. The Bears set the final score with one in the bottom of the innings against junior John Donovan.

Posch picked up his record-breaking hit with a two-out single in the top of the ninth. He surpassed the former record of 58 hits set by Joe Bonyai '07 in 2006.

Posch finished the game 3-for-5 with a double while Simon and MacDonald each had two hits.

Felsenthal (5-2) lost for the first time since a relief appearance in Gettysburg's season opener at Stevenson University. He gave up five runs (one earned) on six hits and no walks while fanning three. Harrington yielded two runs on six hits over four innings.

Junior Pat Cody hit safely in both games to move his hitting streak to 11.

Gettysburg concludes its season with a pair of non-conference games, starting with an away contest versus Susquehanna University on Monday starting at 4 p.m.
