Box Score

CARLISLE, Pa. – Dickinson scored eight unanswered runs to erase an early 2-0 deficit and the Red Devils dealt Gettysburg an 8-2 setback in Centennial Conference baseball action Tuesday afternoon.

Jordan Kaufman and Steven Haynes – Dickinson's No. 4-5 hitters – combined to go 4-for-8 with five RBIs and three runs while Andrew Mauro tossed six innings of scoreless relief.

It was smooth sailing early on for Gettysburg starter Ryan Taylor, who retired 11 in a row after the leadoff batter reached on an error. But with two outs in the fourth, Dickinson broke through with a single, double, and a two-run homer from Haynes to go in front 3-2.

The Devils (13-9, 1-4 CC) would add two runs in the sixth and three in the eighth, when Mike Adams delivered a two-run homer.

Taylor (3-2), who saw his consecutive scoreless inning streak end at 22, threw all eight innings for his fourth complete game of the season. He allowed eight hits and three walks while striking out three.

Sophomore Austin Davis led Gettysburg (12-7, 2-3 CC) at the plate, finishing 2-for-4. Classmate Al Posch singled to push his hitting streak to 13.

The Bullets plated single runs in the second and third without a hit against Dickinson starter Matt Vidal to build their early lead. In both innings Vidal walked the first two batters he faced, and an error brought home a run in the second. In the third, Davis drew a free pass leading off and went on to score from third while a runner was picked off first.

Vidal did not allow a hit but walked five and left after three innings. Mauro (4-1) scattered five hits and a walk the rest of the way.

Gettysburg threatened in the eighth, when it had the tying run at the plate with no outs. With the Bullets trailing 5-2, Posch led off with his single before senior Clint O'Brien walked. But Mauro induced a pair of flyouts sandwiched around a strikeout before Dickinson broke it open in the bottom of the inning.

The Bullets and Red Devils finish off their season series on Thursday, when they meet at Gettysburg for another single nine-inning game starting at 3:30 p.m.
