Box Score

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Washington College held off Gettysburg charges in each of the final two innings to pick up a 2-0 victory and eliminate the Bullets from the Centennial Conference Softball Tournament on Sunday.

Gettysburg (21-17), which defeated Washington (21-20) 4-1 on Saturday, stranded a combined six runners in the sixth and seventh innings in the loss. The Shorewomen were unable to carry the momentum into the championship game against host McDaniel College (27-12) as the Green Terror wrapped up the program's sixth title and first since 2004 with a 9-0 decision.

Senior Adrienne Rahs capped an outstanding career at Gettysburg by going 3-for-4 in Sunday's affair. She connected on her 45th career double in her second at bat of the game, breaking the Centennial record held by Gettysburg head coach Sam Abrams.

Washington struck for the game's first run in its first plate appearance as Christine Anderson knocked a double down the left-field line and came around to score on a single by Suzanne Patinella through the right side. Freshman Lindsey Treanor prevented any more damage with a fielder's choice to get Patinella at second before capping the inning with a popup to second. Treanor allowed only one hit over the next three innings to keep Gettysburg within striking distance.

The Bullets didn't manage a hit until Rahs belted her record-breaking double with one out in the fourth inning. Senior Catrina DelGais singled through the middle two batters later, but the threat ended with a groundout to second.

Washington tracked on an insurance run with two outs in the top of the fifth. Lindsey Glascock singled up the middle and then raced all the way from first to home on a double to right-center by Kylie Nottingham.

The heart of the order went on the attack for Gettysburg in the sixth frame as Rahs and sophomore Maggie Maguire posted back-to-back singles with one out. The Bullets loaded the bags as DelGais reached on a fielder's choice when the shortstop overthrew third base trying to get Rahs.

Jill Piasecki worked out of the jam once again, getting the force-out at home on the ensuing play and ending the inning with a grounder to shortstop.

Piasecki induced a pair of groundouts to start Gettysburg's final opportunity in the seventh, but junior Joy Hallfors knocked some life back into the Orange and Blue with a single up the middle. Pinch-hitter Emily Hall followed with a single to right-center to bring Rahs, who set the school's single-season RBI record this spring, to the plate.

Washington switched pitchers, bringing in Kristin Cooper for the game's pivotal moment. After working the count to two balls and a strike, Rahs hit a sharp grounder to shortstop. Luck was not on Gettysburg's side as the ball glanced off Hallfors, forcing an interference call for the game's final out.

Each team posted seven hits, but Gettysburg left nine runners on the bases compared to Washington's five.

Treanor took the loss to fall to 10-7. She allowed just two earned runs on seven hits, while striking out two.

Piasecki earned the victory for Washington after allowing just six hits and two walks with four strikeouts. Cooper earned her first career save. Patinella and Glascock each recorded a pair of hits for the Shorewomen.

Rahs finished up an amazing career at Gettysburg. In addition to setting the conference doubles record, she now shares or owns 13 school records, including home runs in a game (2, tied), RBI in a game (7, tied), season doubles (15), season RBI (45), season hit-by-pitches (9), season sacrifice flies (10), season caught stealing by (14), season home runs (7, tied), career doubles (45), career hit-by-pitches (21), career sacrifice flies (14), career runners picked off (6), and career caught stealing by (27). She also finished second all-time with 111 RBI and is just the second Bullet ever to post 100 RBI and 100 runs scored in a career.

Rahs was just one of three talented seniors on Gettysburg's roster. DelGais hit a career-high .349 this spring and finished with 125 hits and 73 RBI in her career. Senior pitcher Lanie Parr finished among the school's all-time leaders in wins (8th, 27) and strikeouts (4th, 238). All three seniors were named All-Centennial Conference during their tenures in orange and blue.
