GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Senior Hannah Church and sophomore Katie Blumenthal each put up seven points as third-ranked Gettysburg College dashed past Cabrini College 22-7 in the opening game of the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Tournament.
 
With the win, Gettysburg (18-1) will serve as one of four regional hosts this weekend (May 12-13). The Bullets will face the winner of Adrian College and Denison University on Saturday, May 12, at 11:30 p.m. Saturday's second game will pit Montclair State University against the winner of Middlebury College and Norwich University at 2:30 p.m. Sunday's regional championship will take place at 1 p.m.
 
Gettysburg came out firing against Cabrini (10-9), turning in the game's first six goals in less than nine minutes. Blumenthal sent home a pair of tallies and assisted on one of freshman Bridget Kenny's two scores in the run.
 
The Cavaliers picked up their first goal when Melissa Scanzano lit the lamp at 19:44, but it did little to slow the pace set by Gettysburg. The hosts tallied seven of the next eight goals with back-to-back goals by Lindsey Robinson setting the score at 13-2 with 7:39 left in the opening period.
 
After a pair of Cabrini goals cut the margin to 13-4, Robinson found Blumenthal in front of the net for a pair of goals. The Cavaliers added a free-position goal before Church ripped the final tally of the half to make it 16-5.
 
Cabrini would get no closer than 10 in the final period as the Gettysburg reserves controlled the game. Freshman Cat McCutcheon found classmate Megan Nearing for a quick-stick in front of the cage at 12:46 to push the score to 21-7 with 12:46 to play.
 
Gettysburg held Cabrini to just three shots in the second period and finished with a 35-12 shot advantage. The bullets also led in ground balls (21-13) and draw controls (20-11).
 
Blumenthal set personal marks with seven points and five goals. After netting 29 points in last season's NCAA Tournament, Church continued her postseason rampage with four goals and three assists. She is now just two points shy of Katie Ceglarski '08 (266 points) for fourth on Gettysburg's all-time points lists.
 
Robinson finished with three goals and two assists and Kenny recorded three goals, one assist, and a team-high four draw controls. Sophomores Loren Pruitt and Bailey Beardsley each connected on a pair of goals with the former tallying an assist and two caused turnovers.
 
Junior Alex Casey led Gettysburg's defensive effort with four caused turnovers and three ground balls. Junior Lindsay Menton notched three ground balls and three draw controls and freshman Kate Higgins logged three caused turnovers. Senior goalie Maddie Coleman made four saves for the Bullets.
 
Scanzano led Cabrini with three goals and six draw controls. Janel Folkomer made seven saves in the cage.
