Volleyball Falls to Gallaudet 3-1

Bullets drop final three sets

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg took the opening set and was poised to open up a 2-0 lead in its non-conference match up with Gallaudet University Wednesday night, but the Bison pulled out the second-set win and carried the momentum to the end of a four-set victory inside Bream Gym.
 
Gettysburg (10-7) opened strong by erasing a late three-point deficit to earn a hard-fought 27-25 victory in the first set against Gallaudet (14-4). The Bullets fell behind by six in the second contest before mounting a 10-0 run to take a 21-17 lead. The hosts held set point at 24-23 before the Bison picked up four of the final five points to return the favor in a 27-25 win.
 
Set three belonged to the visitors as Gallaudet hit a collective .529 on the attack, pounding down 20 kills in a 25-9 victory. Gettysburg kept it close in the fourth frame, but Jessica Israel helped slam the door with kills on the Bison's final three points in a 25-21 win.
 
Junior Sarah Gorski led Gettysburg with nine kills and five total blocks. Sophomore Cydney Bracken logged seven kills, while junior Courtney Cyr picked up six kills.
 
Senior Katie Wilson and freshman Hannah Bentz paced the defensive effort with 18 and 13 digs, respectively. Junior Lizzy Kuhn added 19 assists, 11 digs, and three aces.
 
Ann Whited led Gallaudet with 20 kills to go with 14 digs. Israel posted 15 kills and Kali Frowick notched 16 kills and 17 digs. Sarah Tubert totaled 52 assists, 10 digs, and four aces. Kate Fetzer paced the Bison defense with 19 digs.
 
Gettysburg hosts Haverford College and Elizabethtown College on Saturday, Sept. 29, as part of Homecoming Weekend. The Bullets face the Fords at noon before battling the Blue Jays at 4 p.m.
