Emerusabe Scores 14 Points for Gettysburg

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Washington College pulled away midway through the second half and defeated the Gettysburg College men's basketball team 72-57 in the Cain Athletic Center Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference action.

The Bullets (12-11, 8-8 CC) led 44-40 with 12:34 left following a floater by freshman guard Joey Kacmarsky (Westfield, N.J./Rutgers Prep), but the Shoremen (4-19, 4-12 CC) took the lead for good with a 13-2 run. Gettysburg trailed 55-50 with 5:22 remaining after a lay-up from junior forward Connor Poston (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham), but that's as close as the Bullets would get as Washington ended the game with on a 17-7 run.

Sophomore Joe Emerusabe (Derwood, Md./Magruder) scored 14 points for the Bullets, who are in fifth place in the Centennial Conference standings heading into their final two games. Stephen Poarch paced Washington with 18 points and nine assists.

The Shoremen outscored Gettysburg 18-7 to start the game but the Bullets chipped away and eventually took the lead. A 7-0 run, capped by lay-up from freshman guard Sango Amolo (Falls Church, Va./McLean) with 1:42 left, made it 30-27 in favor of the Orange and Blue. Amolo added another bucket with 30 ticks showing, but Washington's John Weston tied it at 32-all with a lay-up just before the buzzer.

Emerusabe led the Bullets in the opening half with eight points on 4-of-5shooting.

Kacmarsky's basket capped a 6-0 Gettysburg second-half spurt before the Shoremen embarked on their run.

Senior Derek Brooks (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) added eight points, six rebounds, and six assists for the Bullets while Poston had nine points and five rebounds. Senior center Benjamin Constable (Christchurch, New Zealand) contributed nine points, six rebounds, and a pair of blocks. Amolo registered four steals.

Gettysburg hosts Dickinson College at 7 p.m. on Wednesday in their final regular season home game of the season.
