GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Lebanon Valley College scored the game-winning run in the sixth inning of both ends of a non-conference doubleheader against Gettysburg College on Sunday. The Dutchmen scored twice in the sixth to beat the Bullets 3-1 in the opener before tacking on three runs in the sixth frame as part of a 6-3 decision in the nightcap.

Gettysburg (7-9) was held without a hit through the first three frames of the opening game as Lebanon Valley (9-3) took advantage of three Bullet errors to plate the first run in the second inning.

The hosts tied the game in the bottom of the fourth as freshman Steph Zengel (High Bridge, N.J./North Hunterdon) hit a ball to short center field which was misplayed by the fielder. The ball rolled all the way to the fence, allowing Zengel to reach third base. Junior Maggie Maguire (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) was quick to take advantage, knocking a double to left to tie the game.

Gettysburg would manage only one more hit against Lebanon Valley pitcher Sam Derr, who fanned six in the victory. Derr would get run support in the sixth as the Dutchmen received back-to-back run-scoring singles by Tessa Deardorff and Katie Deardorff to take a 3-1 lead.

Sophomore Lindsey Treanor (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) took the loss for Gettysburg after allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits and five walks, while posting three strikeouts.

In the nightcap, Lebanon Valley broke open a scoreless game with a pair of runs in the top half of the fourth inning. The Bullets answered in the home half as Zengel came around to score on a long fly ball to right field by sophomore Emily Hall (Reston, Va./Flint Hill School) to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Gettysburg jumped in front in the bottom of the fifth with a pair of runs. The Bullets loaded the bases and Maguire made the Dutchmen pay, slapping a single to left field and plating a pair of runners. Lebanon Valley pitcher Haley Neff prevented any more damage by closing the inning with a groundout with runners on second and third.

The Dutchmen returned the favor by loading the bags in the sixth. Neff helped her own cause with a run-scoring single to tie the game before two more runs crossed the plate via a fielder's choice and another single. Lebanon Valley added another run in the seventh to seal the win.

Zengel and Maguire each went 2-for-3 in the nightcap with the latter driving in two runs.

Allie Hartman went 3-for-3 with two RBI and Derr posted a pair of hits and scored two runs for Lebanon Valley in game two.

Gettysburg is scheduled to travel to Messiah College for a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday, March 26, at 3 p.m.
