Box Score

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Junior Nate Simon (Gwynedd Valley, Pa./Abington Friends School) went 3-for-3 with three RBIs, including the go-ahead single in the top of the 11th, as the Gettysburg College baseball captured an extra-inning victory at Penn State-Harrisburg Friday afternoon in non-conference action.

Senior Pat Cody (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) keyed the Bullets (12-6) in the 11th with a one-out double before scoring two batters later on Simon's two-out single into center.

Junior Tommy LeNoir (Bear, Del./Red Lion Christian Academy) finished 3-for-6 at the plate for Gettysburg, which never trailed, while classmates Al Posch (Hopedale, Mass./Hopedale) and Ben Roessle (Summit, N.J./Summit) each collected two hits. Cody scored a pair of runs.

Earning his first career win on the mound was sophomore Kyle Beldoch (Leonia, N.J./Leonia), who tossed the final 4 2/3 innings while yielding only one run on six hits. He struck out three and walked one.

An RBI-single from junior Mike Elisio (Bensalem, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep) gave the Bullets a 1-0 lead in the top of the second, and junior starter Chris Yoda (Wall, N.J./Wall) blanked the Lions (7-9) over the first three innings. Bryan Balshy homered in the fourth to tie it a 1-1.

After a leadoff double by Balshy in the sixth, sophomore Mike Kielbasa (Ludlow, Mass./Loomis Chaffee School) came on in relief for the Bullets and escaped after the Lions put runners on the corners.

In the seventh, Simon delivered a sacrifice fly to put Gettysburg up 2-1 but the Lions answered in the bottom of the frame. After a pair of walks, Beldoch entered the game with one out, and Harrisburg would tie it on a two-out single.

The Bullets reclaimed the lead again in the ninth. LeNoir and Cody led off with a single and a walk, respectively, before Roessle bunted them up a bag. Another sac fly from Simon put Gettysburg on top 3-2.

In the bottom of the ninth, Harrisburg led off with a pair of singles followed by a sac bunt. After a groundout and an intentional walk, Cody Henry tied it with a single to right.

Beldoch (1-1) retired the side in order in the 10th and stranded a runner on second with one out in the 11th.

Yoda allowed just one run on eight hits over five innings. Will Chaney (1-2) suffered the loss for the Lions, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out five over the last four innings.

Gettysburg plays its Centennial Conference opener on Saturday, when it hosts Ursinus College in a doubleheader beginning at 12:30 p.m.
