Bullets Wear Down Red Devils 17-3

Gettysburg remains unbeaten in conference play

CARLISLE, Pa. – Sophomore Bridget Kenny (Gladstone, N.J./Bernards) tossed in five goals and the defense held host Dickinson College without a goal over the final 51 minutes as fifth-ranked Gettysburg College raced past the Red Devils 17-3 in Centennial Conference women's lacrosse action on Wednesday night.
 
Gettysburg (9-1, 3-0 CC) trailed 3-1 as Ali Dawson turned in two goals and assisted on another for Dickinson (6-4, 2-1 CC). The Bullets powered their way past the hosts as Kenny and junior Kelsey Markiewicz (Taconic, Conn./Berkshire School (Mass.) combined for the next seven goals. Kenny went back-to-back before Markiewicz went on a four-goal spree. The sophomore capped the opening period with a goal to give the visitors an 8-3 edge.
 
The Bullets dominated possession of the ball in the final stanza, winning 8-of-9 draw controls and holding Dickinson to just five shots. Kenny added three more goals in the final period with her final tally of the game giving Gettysburg a 14-3 lead with 8:11 left.
 
Gettysburg finished with an 18-4 advantage in the draw circle, while also out-shooting the hosts 32-13.
 
Kenny added an assist for a career-high six points. She also led Gettysburg with six draw controls. Markiewicz finished with four goals and three draw controls, while freshmen Amanda Borucki (Westminster, Md./North Carroll) and Abby Baigelman (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) each posted a goal and two assists.
 
Freshman goalie Lindsay Clinton (Barto, Pa./Boyertown) posted five saves for the Bullets. Seniors Kat Nestor (Darien, Conn./Darien) and Hayward Sawers (Timonium, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) each corralled four ground balls.
 
Gettysburg returns to action at home against Swarthmore College on Saturday, April 6, at 1 p.m.
