COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Junior Maggie Maguire (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) reached base seven times and senior Joy Hallfors (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) continued to rise up the program's all-time ranks as the Gettysburg College softball team earned a split in a Centennial Conference doubleheader at Ursinus College on Saturday afternoon.

Ursinus (9-13, 4-4 CC) scored the game-winning run in its final at bat to beat Gettysburg (13-13, 5-3 CC) 5-4 in the opening game. The Bullets bounced back in the nightcap by scoring the final five runs as part of a 9-5 decision.

Maguire went 3-for-5 with four walks, three doubles, and three RBI on the day. Hallfors posted four hits, including tying a school record with two triples in the nightcap, four RBI and two stolen bases. With 172 career base hits, the senior now stands just two shy of the program record held by Mandy Wilson '02. Hallfors also moved up the school's career lists for at bats (Tied-2nd, 477), runs scored (Tied-4th, 108), triples (Tied-3rd, 19), and stolen bases (2nd, 36).

The Bullets jumped ahead 4-3 in the opening game as Hallfors posted a run-scoring single for her second hit of the game. The visitors were poised for more with runners on second and third, but Kelly Schymanski got freshman Steph Zengel (High Bridge, N.J./North Hunterdon) to fly out to left field.

Ursinus took advantage of three Bullet errors to score the game-tying and game-winning runs in its final two at bats. The Bears loaded the bases with no outs in their final at bat, but a fielder's choice to home took out the lead runner. A second grounder to the infield resulted in another out at home, but an attempted double play at first went awry as a result of a collision between the runner and defender. The game-winning run came in to score on the play.

Senior Katie Lang (Kennebunk, Maine/Kennebunk) went 3-for-3 with one run and an RBI for Gettysburg. Maguire drove in two runs with a pair of doubles, while Hallfors posted two hits and two stolen bases.

Gettysburg jumped out with the first four runs in game two. Maguire posted an RBI double in the first frame and Hallfors followed up a run-scoring single by sophomore Melissa Tighe (Little Falls, N.J./Mt. St. Dominic Academy) with a two-run triple in the second inning.

Ursinus responded with five runs in the second inning to take the lead. Amy Gentile and Allison Pfrommer each posted two-run singles to cap the frame.

Freshman Michelle Fox (Newton, N.J./Blair Academy) took over duties on the mound and held the Bears off the scoreboard over the final 5.2 innings. She allowed four hits and one walk, while striking out four.

Gettysburg tied the game on a single by Zengel in the fourth inning. Hallfors scored the go-ahead run in the sixth after leading off the inning with her second triple of the game and coming around to score on a single by sophomore Ashley Iannone (Great Meadows, N.J./Blair Academy).

The visitors tacked on three more runs in the seventh with Zengel capping the frame with another run-scoring single.

Ursinus threatened to score in its final at bat after leading off with a pair of singles, but the defense notched a pair of outs at third before Fox induced a fly out to right field to end the game.

Hallfors finished 2-for-5 with three RBI. Zengel went 2-for-4 with two RBI and Maguire was 1-for-2 with three walks and an RBI. Senior Sam Bader (York, Pa./Central York) posted three hits and scored one run.

Gettysburg travels to Hood College for a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday, April 9, at 3 p.m.
