ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. – Junior
Kara McNulty (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central) won her sixth career tournament and the Gettysburg College women's golf team claimed the team title at its own spring event for the third consecutive season as the Bullets out-distanced the field by 35 strokes following the final round of play at Hanover Country Club on Sunday.
Gettysburg was the lone team not to improve upon its day one score, but the team's second-round tally of 352 was more than enough to pad its lead. The Bullets finished with a total score of 701 with McDaniel College a distant second at 736. Susquehanna University finished third at 776, while Dickinson College (789), Washington & Jefferson College (833), Eastern University (857), and Ursinus College (875) rounded out the seven scoring teams.
McNulty earned her first victory of the season with the top score on day two. After tying a career low with a 78 on Saturday, the junior posted an 82 on Sunday to win the event by eight strokes. McNulty opened with a birdie on the par-5, 472-yard first hole and added seven pars in the round. McDaniel's Morgan Koopman finished runner-up with back-to-back 84s.
All five Bullets finished among the top 12 in the 40-player field. Sophomore
Lauren Sobotka (North Caldwell, N.J./Mt. St. Dominic Academy) wrapped up third after finishing one stroke off her opening-day score with an 87. Sobotka has placed in the top five in five of six events this season.
Senior
Molly Nulty (Cortland, N.Y./Homer) cut six strokes from her first-round score with an 89 on Sunday. Nulty jumped three spots into 10th with a 184 for the tournament.
Freshmen
Kate Schwartz (Blairstown, N.J./North Warren Regional) and
Alexandra Lane (Fairport, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) placed 11th and 12th, respectively. Schwartz posted 94 in the final round and 186 for the tournament, while Lane carded 96 on Sunday and 189 for the event.
Next up for the Bullets is the Stevenson Invitational on Saturday, April 13, at Piney Branch Country Club.
