Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Junior Al Posch (Hopedale, Mass./Hopedale) set or tied a pair of school records and the Gettysburg College baseball team outslugged Dickinson College 15-11 in a Centennial Conference baseball game Tuesday afternoon at an unseasonably warm Kichhoff Field.

On a topsy-turvy afternoon, Gettysburg (16-10, 3-4 CC) carried a 10-4 lead into the seventh inning following an eight-run third; however, the Red Devils (9-17, 0-7 CC) plated five runs in the seventh to make it a one-run game. But the Bullets quelled the rally with a four-run seventh and held off a threat in the ninth.

Posch finished 5-for-6 with three runs, three RBIs, and a pair of doubles. He tied the Gettysburg record for hits in a game and was the first to reach five hits since Kevin Langhauser '10 against Juniata College in 2010. He also broke the single-season school record for doubles with his second two-bagger of the game and now has 16 on the season, one more than Mike Backus '10 had in 2009. Posch reached second on four of his five hits, moving up a bag on an outfield error on two occasions.

Junior Tommy LeNoir (Bear, Del./Red Lion Christian Academy) also had a big game for the Bullets, finishing 3-for-6 with three doubles and four RBIs. Junior Ben Roessle (Summit, N.J./Summit) was 3-for-5 while classmate Cam MacDonald (Norwell, Mass./Norwell) was 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs. Senior Pat Cody (Chesapeake, Va./Great Bridge) and junior Nate Simon (Gwynedd Valley, Pa./Abington Friends School) extended their hitting streaks to 14 and 13 games, respectively, while Posch has now hit safely in 11 straight games.

Sophomore Eric Hungerford (New Preston, Conn./Shepaug Valley) earned the win on the mound for Gettysburg, allowing six runs (three earned) on nine hits and two walks while striking out seven. Junior Chris Yoda (Wall, N.J./Wall) came on in the ninth with runners on first and second and no outs before retiring the side to pick up the save.

Hank Sanders went 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs to lead Dickinson (9-17, 0-7 CC), which lost its ninth game in a row.

The Bullets fell behind 3-0 when the Red Devils scored three unearned runs. Gettysburg answered with an unearned tally of its own in the bottom of the inning on an RBI-triple from Cody.

Each side added a run in the second, and MacDonald's RBI-single made it 4-2.

Hungerford (4-1) would go on to blank Dickinson from the third through the sixth innings. In the bottom of the third, the Bullets sent 12 batters to plate while chasing starter Matt Cowell (1-2). Gettysburg ripped seven hits and took advantage of two errors to assume their 10-4 lead. The Bullets banged out four doubles in the inning, with two coming from LeNoir.

The Devils finally reached Hungerford in the seventh, putting runners on first and second with one out following a single and a walk. Three Gettysburg relievers would take the mound over the remainder of the inning, and Joseph Tursi's bases-loaded triple off sophomore Kyle Beldoch (Leonia, N.J./Leonia) made it 10-9.

The Bullets gave themselves some breathing room with their four-spot in the bottom of the frame. After reliever Garrett Kurtz tossed 3 1/3 innings of shutout ball, the Bullets reached him for four runs, with three coming on back-to-back doubles from Posch and LeNoir.

Both teams scored a run in the eighth, including an RBI-single from Posch that made it 15-10. In the top of the ninth, Dickinson drew a walk before a pair of singles cut the lead to four. But that's when Yoda shut the door, inducing a fielder's choice and a pop-out sandwiched around a strikeout for his third collegiate save.

Gettysburg and Dickinson complete their season series on Friday, when they meet in Carlisle for another nine-inning game.
