FREDERICK, Md. – Sophomore Melissa Tighe (Little Falls, N.J./Mt. St. Dominic Academy) singled in the game-winning run in the 10th inning of game two as Gettysburg completed a sweep of Hood College in non-conference softball action on Tuesday.

Gettysburg (15-13) received a pair of home runs by sophomore Ashley Iannone (Great Meadows, N.J./Blair Academy) and freshman Michelle Fox (Newton, N.J./Blair Academy) as part of a 13-4 victory in the opening game. The nightcap took twice as long as Tighe logged her third hit and third RBI of the contest in the top of the 10th.

Senior Joy Hallfors (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) tallied a pair of singles in game one to move into a tie for first place on the program's career hits list. Hallfors is tied with Mandy Wilson '02 with 174 base hits and she will have a shot to break the record at home as the Bullets host Washington College this Saturday, April 13, at 1 p.m.

After a quiet first inning in the opener, the floodgates opened in the top of the second as Gettysburg posted five runs, including four unearned. Sophomore Alexa Katz (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) started the offensive surge with a two-run single to right.

After Hood (16-9) scored three unearned runs in the bottom of the second inning, the Bullets used the longball to bring across four more runs in the third inning. Iannone led off with a solo shot to left-center and after back-to-back hits senior Sam Bader (York, Pa./Central York) and junior Abby Ferguson (Harrisburg, Pa./Trinity), Fox helped her cause on the mound with a three-run homer to right-center. Gettysburg added four unearned runs in the next two innings to finish the game.

Gettysburg's 6-7-8-9 hitters went 7-for-12 with seven runs and five RBI. Bader, Ferguson, and Fox each tallied a pair of hits, while Katz scored two runs.

Fox improved to 8-4 this season after allowing just one earned run on seven hits and two walks.

Tighe led the way in the nightcap for Gettysburg. The sophomore led off the game with a single and a steal before coming around to score on a double by sophomore Emily Hall (Reston, Va./Flint Hill School). In the next inning, Tighe doubled in two more runs to give the Bullets a 3-0 lead.

Hood crawled back into the game with solo runs in the fifth and sixth innings against Gettysburg starter Taylor Snyder (Little Silver, N.J./Red Bank Regional). Sophomore Lindsey Treanor (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) entered the game in the seventh and after retiring the first batter, allowed a single up the middle to Ashley Fourcade. Fourcade advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches and came around to score on a passed ball to send the game to extras.

With the international tiebreaker rule in effect, both teams looked to strike early. Gettysburg was unable to advance the placed runner to third in the first two frames, while Treanor left the Blazers' lead runner hanging out at third in both the eighth and ninth innings.

Gettysburg made its move with two outs in the ninth. After a fielder's choice eliminated the lead runner, freshman Meghan Hisgen (East Northport, N.Y./Commack) posted an infield single to put runners on first and second. Tighe came through with a single to center field to plate the runner from second base and give the visitors the lead.

Hood put a pair of runners in scoring position in the bottom of the inning, but Treanor slammed the door with back-to-back strikeouts to end the game.

Tighe finished 3-for-4 with a run, three RBI and her team-high 17th stolen base of the season. She is just four steals shy of Wilson for Gettysburg's all-time record. Hisgen added two hits for the Bullets.

Snyder earned a no-decision after pitching six innings and allowing just two runs (one earned) on seven hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Treanor pitched the final four innings and allowed only one hit, while posting four strikeouts.
