Box Score GRANTHAM, Pa. – Freshman
Laura Bergin (Charlottesville, Va./Western Albemarle) posted 12 kills and 15 digs to lead the Gettysburg College volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep at Messiah College in a non-conference match Tuesday evening.
The Bullets (7-5) won 25-23, 25-23, and 25-18.
Senior
Kelly Milione (Gainesville, Va./Battlefield) contributed 27 digs for Gettysburg while classmate
Lizzy Kuhn (Wilmington, Del./Archmere Academy) also posted a double-double with 23 assists and 10 digs.
The Bullets trailed only at 1-0 in the opening set, but after leading by as much as six the Falcons (4-4) rallied to tie it at 22-all. But Gettysburg ended the set on a 3-1 spurt, with Kuhn ending it with a kill.
Messiah bolted to a 14-6 lead in the second set, only to see the Bullets outscore the Falcons 19-9 the rest of the way.
A 15-1 Gettysburg run midway through the third set broke it open. Sophomore
Hannah Bentz (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) served on nine straight points and the Bullets would lead 19-7. The Falcons were unable to get closer the six the rest of the way.
The Bullets play their second match in as many nights when they visit Shenandoah University on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in another non-conference affair.
