GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg rallied late, but Susquehanna used a serving spree at the end of the fourth set to hold on for a 3-1 victory in non-conference volleyball action Wednesday evening in Bream Gymnasium.
The Crusaders (14-3) won the first two sets 25-23 and 25-22 before the Bullets (7-8) came back to win the third set 25-18. Gettysburg trailed just 18-15 late in the fourth before Erin Bryne iced the match for Susquehanna, reeling off five consecutive aces and the Crusaders would prevail 25-18.

Courtney Cyr (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) led Gettysburg with 12 kills and just four errors on 21 attempts for a .381 hitting night. Senior
Sarah Gorski (Darien, Conn./Darien) added 11 kills while classmate
Kelly Milione (Gainesville, Va./Battlefield) posted four aces and 13 digs. Sophomore
Courtney Morrow (Greenlawn, N.Y./Harborfields) contributed eight kills, seven digs, and six blocks while senior
Lizzy Kuhn (Wilmington, Del./Archmere Academy) dished out 33 assists.
Jessica Holm and Bryne totaled a match-high 13 kills apiece to lead Susquehanna while Bryne finished with eight aces.
The Crusaders never trailed in the opening set after scoring the first five points, though the Bullets would tie it twice in the end. But Holm and Bryne ended the set with a pair of kills.
Gettysburg led by as much as four in the early going of the second set, only to see Susquehanna take the lead for good with a 9-1 run. The Bullets again rallied to make it close, pulling to with one twice, but were unable to complete the comeback.
In the third set Gettysburg trailed only at 2-1, and with a late 5-1 spurt opened up some breathing room at 19-15. After a point by Susquehanna, the Bullets closed the set on a 6-2 run.
It was 11-11 in the fourth when Susquehanna went on a 6-1 run to assume a five-point advantage before Bryne's big finish later in the set.
Gettysburg picks up its schedule on Saturday during Homecoming weekend, when it hosts Haverford College at 1 p.m. in a Centennial Conference match and Elizabethtown College at 5 p.m. in a non-conference tilt.
