GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Gettysburg College women's soccer team exploded for six second-half goals and the Bullets knocked off Shenandoah University 7-0 in a non-conference outing Wednesday afternoon at Clark Field.
Junior
Brigid Behan (Newport, R.I./Portsmouth Abbey) led the Bullets with two goals and one assist, notching back-to-back tallies in the latter portion of the match to give her team a commanding 5-0 advantage. Classmate
Molly Phillips (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) contributed one goal and one assist for Gettysburg (2-0-1), which needed just 17 shots to post the team's highest scoring output since a 7-0 victory over Washington College on Sept. 24, 2011.
Freshman
Hannah Theurer (Darnestown, Md./Northwest) scored the lone goal – the first of her collegiate career – in the opening half, striking in the 33rd minute to give the Bullets a 1-0 lead at the break. Junior
Georgia Ferguson (Bethel, Conn./Bethel) kicked off the Bullets' scoring spree in the second period when she converted a Behan assist in the 54th minute.
Phillips got into the scoring act four minutes later to make it 3-0 before Behan scored her consecutive goals in the 66th and 75th-minute marks.
Gettysburg's lead ballooned to 6-0 after a goal from sophomore
Melissa Seidner (Hamilton, N.J./Peddie School) in the 78th minute. Freshman
Maddie Brown (Canandaigua, N.Y./Marcus Whitman) applied the finishing touches when she potted her first collegiate goal with 32 seconds on the clock.
Sophomore
Eliza Gray (South Orange, N.J./Columbia) made two saves over the opening 73 minutes, and junior
Paige Della Badia (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains-Fanwood) was untested over the final 17 minutes.
Erin Septer allowed four goals and made three saves in 65:36 of action for the Hornets (2-1-1) before Kristen Barrickman yielded three goals without making a save over the final 16:57.
The Bullets return to Clark Field for their fourth straight home match to open the season when they take on Frostburg State University in another non-conference outing Saturday at 7 p.m.
