Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Stevenson University busted out five goals over a 12-minute span in the opening half on the way to a 5-0 victory over Gettysburg College in non-conference field hockey action Wednesday night at Mustang Stadium.
It took over 22 minutes for Stevenson (7-4) to get going and when Caitlin Dempsey's opening goal came through at 22:59, the floodgates opened. The Mustangs struck four more times before the end of the period with Alison Kagel netting her third consecutive score with 32 seconds remaining in the first half.
Gettysburg (2-6) kept Stevenson off the board in the final period with three saves. Freshman
Kelly Reymann (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville) picked up a defensive save in the 46th minute and junior
Emily Van Horn (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) recorded a defensive save of her own in the 60th minute. Van Horn's stop was the 13th of her career, leaving her three shy of
Megan Bernstein's '12 career mark. Freshman
Haley Mowery (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Northern) added another save on a penalty stroke just eight seconds after Van Horn's play.
Stevenson finished with a 14-0 edge in shots and an 8-6 lead in penalty corners. Sophomore
Ronnie Bridges (Kingsville, Md./Notre Dame Prep) posted three saves in the opening 31:32, while Mowery logged one stop over the remaining time.
Gettysburg visits Haverford College on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 1 p.m.
