Box Score SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Sophomore
Kathryn Hardman (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) scored her first two collegiate goals to help Gettysburg College take down Swarthmore College 3-0 in Centennial Conference field hockey action on Saturday.
Gettysburg (3-8, 1-4 CC) tested the Swarthmore (1-12, 0-6 CC) goal often in the opening half, posting 13 shots in the opening 32 minutes alone. Hardman took advantage of a flurry in front of the goal and knocked home a rebound for her first collegiate score at 32:43. Any additional damage by the Bullets in the first half was thwarted by Garnet keeper Ainsley Parrish, who recorded 11 of her game-high 18 saves in the first period.
While the defense kept Swarthmore from attempting any shots in the first 18 minutes of the final stanza, the offense continued to press the action. Parrish turned away five shots, but sophomore
Hannah Fitzgerald (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) struck for her team-high fourth goal of the season at 49:55.
The hosts forced six penalty corners and six shots during a seven-minute spurt later in the period. No goals were to be found, however, with freshman goalie
Haley Mowery (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Northern) stopping four shots.
Hardman added an unassisted goal with less than three minutes remaining to set the final margin.
Gettysburg finished with a 31-13 advantage in shots as well as a 16-12 advantage in penalty corners.
Mowery finished with eight saves on the way to her first collegiate shutout.
Gettysburg picks up action next Saturday, Oct. 18, with a road trip to Bryn Mawr College. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
