OWINGS MILLS, Md.  – The Gettysburg College volleyball team picked up a split against a pair of non-conference foes that entered Saturday with 35 combined victories.

Gettysburg (15-8) took out host Stevenson (17-3) in four sets 27-25, 25-13, 19-25, and 25-22 to open the day. Stevens Institute of Technology (19-3) avoided the same fate as the Mustangs, turning back the Bullets in three sets 25-19, 25-18, and 25-21.

Gettysburg trailed nearly the entire opening set with Stevenson before rallying to tie the game at 23-23. The Mustangs had set point at 25-24 before back-to-back kills by sophomore Laura Bergin (Charlottesville, Va./Western Albemarle) set the stage for the Bullet win.

The visitors cruised in the second set before Stevenson finished off the third contest with a 10-4 run. A kill by junior Joosje Grevers (Westport, Conn./Staples) followed by back-to-back attack errors by the Mustangs broke an 18-all tie in the fourth set. Junior Courtney Morrow (Greenlawn, N.Y./Harborfields) polished off the victory with a kill.

Bergin finished with a career-high 18 kills to go with a dozen digs. Grevers posted eight kills and seven total blocks, while junior Hannah Bentz (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) put up 24 digs. Freshman Stephanie Blair (Chester, N.Y./West Morris Mendham) totaled 32 assists and 22 digs and classmate Katherine Gilbert (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep) put up 14 digs.

Lauren Weaver paced Stevenson with 13 kills and 21 digs.

The lead changed hands only four times as Stevens picked up its 11th-straight victory Saturday afternoon. The Ducks trailed briefly and early in each of the first two sets. Tied at 17-17 in set three, Stevens rattled off three consecutive points to take the lead for good.

Sophomore Hannah Dallman (Fairfax, Va./W.T. Woodson) posted nine kills and Bergin put down eight. Bentz led the defensive effort with 14 digs.

Brianna Evans registered a double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs for Stevens. Sydni Horner put up 22 digs and Ashley Castillo dished out 35 assists for the Ducks.

Gettysburg returns to its Centennial Conference schedule with a home date against Dickinson College on Wednesday, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m.
