Box Score GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Swarthmore College overcame an opening-set loss to bounce back and defeat Gettysburg College 3-1 in Centennial Conference volleyball action inside Bream Gym Wednesday night.
Gettysburg (14-7, 2-2 CC) rebounded from a four-point deficit (15-11) to take the opening set 25-21. Swarthmore (13-4, 5-0 CC) bounced back in set two, pounding down 18 kills in a 25-20 decision. The final two sets featured 18 ties and 11 lead changes, but the Garnet prevailed in both with scores of 25-16 and 25-19.
Junior
Courtney Morrow (Greenlawn, N.Y./Harborfields) paced the Bullets with nine kills, while sophomores
Hannah Dallman (Fairfax, Va./W.T. Woodson) and
Laura Bergin (Charlottesville, Va./Western Albemarle) each recorded seven kills. Dallman also added six total blocks.
Freshman setter
Stephanie Blair (Chester, N.J./West Morris Mendham) tallied five kills, 28 assists, and seven digs. Junior
Hannah Bentz (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) led the defensive effort with 22 digs, while classmate
Alesha Miller (New Oxford, Pa./New Oxford) contributed 13 digs.
Sarah Wallace and Chastity Hopkins led Swarthmore with 16 and 15 kills, respectively. Madison Heppe and Malia Scott each put up 16 digs, while Bridget Scott finished with 11 kills and five total blocks.
Gettysburg travels to Stevenson University for a non-conference tri-match on Saturday, Oct. 11. The Bullets face the host Mustangs at noon before squaring off with Stevens Institute of Technology at 2 p.m.
