Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Four Gettysburg players scored in double figures and the Bullets used a late 10-0 run to pull away for a 69-55 victory over York (Pa.) College in non-conference men's basketball action Wednesday evening in Bream Gymnasium.

Sophomore guard Pete Christ (Pittstown, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) scored a game-high 14 points for the Bullets (2-1), who shot 49.0 percent from the field and 77.8 percent (14-for-18) at the foul line. Gettysburg also out-rebounded York 37-24.

Senior guard Joe Emerusabe (Derwood, Md./Magruder) added 12 points, including a pair of 3-pointers during Gettysburg's decisive run, to go with seven rebounds. Junior forward Kevin Gladstone (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) contributed 12 points off the bench while freshman forward Cameron Stewart (Sydney, Australia/Newington College) added 10 points. Freshman center Vitor Melo (Brasilia, Brazil/Lee [Maine]), making his first career start, chipped in defensively with six rebounds.

The Spartans (0-3), who also had four players score in double figures, were led by Mike Duffy and Brad Wesner, who scored 12 points apiece.

Gettysburg led just 51-48 with 6:47 left after York's Joe Feinberg completed a conventional 3-point play off a fast break. But that's when Emerusabe sparked the team's late run, knocking down a pair of treys sandwiched around a Gladstone lay-up to give the Bullets their first double-digit lead (59-48) of the night. Stewart finished off the run when he hauled in a long outlet pass from Emersabe and coasted in for a lay-up to make it 61-48 with 4:52 left, prompting a York timeout. But the Spartans were unable to get closer than 10 the rest of the way.

It was a back-and-forth affair in the opening half that featured one tie and 10 lead changes. The Bullets used a late 8-0 spurt, with Christ scoring the final seven points of the run, to go up by six (28-22) with 1:54 showing. But a 3-pointer by Matt Scamuffo with six seconds left in the period pulled the Spartans to within 30-27 at the half.

The Bullets never trailed in the second half and nudged their lead to seven (43-36) following a pair of free throws from Emerusabe with 13:39 on the clock. York drew to within two on a pair of occasions, the last coming after two Scamuffo foul shots with 10:39 remaining. But the two teams went scoreless for the next 2:33 before Stewart scored four straight points to give the Orange and Blue some breathing room with 7:44 left.

Gettysburg concludes its four-game homestand to open the season when it hosts Swarthmore College at 3 p.m. on Saturday in its Centennial Conference opener.
