Box Score

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Freshman forward Cody Kiefer (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) scored a season-high 27 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as the Gettysburg College men's basketball team won its third game in a row, topping Ursinus College 76-49 on the road in a Centennial Conference match-up Saturday afternoon.

It was the third double-double of the year for Kiefer, who shot 6-for-11 from 3-point range, canning the most treys since Brendan Trelease '12 also made six at Muhlenberg on Jan. 14, 2012.

Four days after holding Franklin & Marshall to 28% shooting, Gettysburg (9-10, 7-5 CC) limited the Bears to 33.9% marksmanship. The Bullets also outrebounded Ursinus 47-34.

Freshman forward Tanner Kirkpatrick (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) added 15 points for the Bullets while senior center Connor Poston (Ambler, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) contributed 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting while pulling down eight rebounds. Junior guard Sean Gordon (Broomall, Pa./Malvern Prep) distributed six assists.

Pat Vesturia scored 16 points for Ursinus (3-16, 1-11 CC) while Ryan Adams had 15 points and 12 rebounds.

The Bullets trailed for a total of 25 seconds for the afternoon. Adams scored the game's opening bucket to make it 2-0, but Kirkpatrick answered with a 3-pointer to kick off an 11-0 run.

Ursinus came back with a 13-4 surge to pull even at 15-all with 12:09 on the clock. It was deadlocked at 17 when freshman guard Pete Christ (Pittstown, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) polished off a conventional 3-point play to put the Orange and Blue on top to stay with 9:44 left in the opening stanza, and it was the start of a 15-4 run. Kiefer scored the final eight points of the outburst, capped by back-to-back 3-pointers, to make it a 32-21 game with 3:28 showing. He dialed long distance again with four ticks showing to give the Bullets a 37-25 advantage at the half.

Gettysburg was never threatened in the second period, when its lead never dipped below eight. The Bears trailed 61-46 with 9:49 left but that's when the Bullets slammed the door defensively, holding the hosts to just three points and one field goal the rest of the way. Gettysburg blanked Ursinus over the final 5:24.

The Bullets return to Centennial Conference action on Wednesday, when they visit Dickinson College at 6 p.m.
