Box Score COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Gettysburg College women's lacrosse team ran its winning streak against Centennial Conference opponents to 28 games with a 17-8 victory at Ursinus College on Saturday afternoon.
No. 6 Gettysburg (11-1, 6-0 CC) poured in a season-high 41 shots and dominated the draw once again, winning 18-of-27 battles inside the circle. Gettysburg has not lost to a conference opponent since a 7-6 decision against Franklin & Marshall College in the 2011 Centennial Conference title game.
Senior
Loren Pruitt (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) led the scoring barrage with four goals and one assist. Junior
Bridget Kenny (Gladstone, N.J./Bernards) added three goals and one assist, while sophomores
Maggie Connolly (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) and
Abby Baigelman (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) each contributed two goals and one assist.
Ursinus (7-5, 2-3 CC) jumped out of the gate with the game's first two goals. Gettysburg evened the score with back-to-back tallies by junior
Mandy Buell (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) and Pruitt, before another goal by the Bears lifted the hosts to a 3-2 advantage at 22:01.
The Bullets would post the next six goals beginning with back-to-back scores by Buell and senior
Kelsey Markiewicz (Taconic, Conn./Berkshire School (Mass.)) just 16 seconds apart. Gettysburg would head into the break sporting an 8-4 lead.
After exchanging goals to start the final period, the Bullets broke away with a 6-1 run. Freshman
Emma Christie (Cos Cob, Conn./Greenwich) gave the visitors a 15-6 advantage with 16:40 to play.
Nine players picked up a draw control for Gettysburg with Kenny leading the way with five. Sophomore
Emily Tropsa (Darien, Conn./Darien) and senior
Kelly Spieker (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) each procured three draw controls, with the former adding three ground balls.
Markiewicz finished with two goals and now stands just two points shy of becoming the 10th player in program history to reach 200 career points. Buell also contributed two goals and senior
Katie Blumenthal (Malvern, Pa./Academy of Notre Dame) logged one goal and one assist.
Freshmen
Shannon Keeler (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) and
Catherine Towers (Midlothian, Va./St. Anne's Belfield) split time in cage for Gettysburg. Keeler posted two saves in the opening half, while Towers notched four stops in the second period.
Jayme Verman led the Bears with three goals and two assists. Kitty Dawson recorded a pair of goals and Margaret Philbin finished with 10 saves.
Gettysburg travels to Catholic University for a non-conference game on Wednesday, April 16, at 4:30 p.m.
