Jamie Abell (Glenn Dale, Elizabeth Seton) went 4-for-4 in the opener and junior
Lindsey Treanor (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) tossed her fourth shutout of the season in the nightcap to lead Gettysburg College to a sweep of Swarthmore College in a Centennial Conference doubleheader Friday afternoon.
Abell scored three runs and sophomore
Meghan Hisgen's (East Northport, N.Y./Commack) drove in three to spark Gettysburg (16-13, 5-9 CC) to an 8-2 win in the opening game. In game two, Treanor allowed only three hits and fanned four and Abell and sophomore
Steph Zengel (High Bridge, N.J./North Hunterdon) each drove in two runs in an 8-0 decision.
In the opening game, the Bullets reached the scoreboard first with a run in the first inning, but Swarthmore capitalized on three errors in the top of the second to score two unearned runs to take the lead.
Gettysburg answered in the home half of the second with three runs, including RBI singles by Abell and Zengel to regain the upper-hand.
The Garnet threated to score in the fifth, loading the bases with one out. Sophomore
Michelle Fox (Newton, N.J./Blair Academy) closed the door with a line out to left field and a fly out to center.
The Bullets tacked on four more runs in the sixth highlighted by a run-scoring triple by junior
Melissa Tighe (Little Falls, N.J./Mt. St. Dominic) and a two-run single by Hisgen.
Fox evened her record at 7-7 with the win, allowing two unearned runs on seven hits and striking out one. Tighe scored a pair of runs to become the eighth player in program history to reach 100 for her career.
Swarthmore managed just three hits against Treanor in the nightcap. The Garnet managed to load the bases in the second, but the Gettysburg junior struck out Laurie Sellars to end the threat. Treanor improved to 9-6 on the year with the win.
Zengel put the Bullets on the board with a solo home run over left field in the first frame. Four more runs crossed the plate in the second, including two on a double to left by Abell.
After adding a run in the third, Gettysburg capped the scoring with an RBI single by Zengel and an RBI double by junior
Emily Hall (Reston, Va./Flint Hill School) in the fourth inning.
Tighe scored two more runs in the nightcap to push her career total to 102 and move into seventh on the all-time list. Zengel finished 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI and Hisgen added two more hits. Hall went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
Gettysburg returns to action with a non-conference doubleheader at home against Susquehanna University on Tuesday, April 22, at 3 p.m.
