GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The 22nd-ranked Gettysburg College baseball team clinched a spot in the Centennial Conference (CC) tournament after splitting with Muhlenberg College on Senior Day Saturday afternoon at Kirchhoff Field.

The Bullets (27-5, 12-2 CC) dropped the opener 12-4, ending the team's 20-game home winning streak, but rallied from a 5-1 deficit in the nightcap to win 12-7 and sew up their second-consecutive berth in the CC playoffs.

(Wall, N.J./Wall) blanked the Mules through the first three innings but ran into trouble in the fourth, giving up five runs on six hits and an error as Muhlenberg went up 5-1. Freshman Aaron Bezio (Stafford, Va./Mountain View) came on to get the final two outs of the inning.

The Bullets chipped into the deficit against starter Matthew Lawsky when Zanghellini singled in another run. Gettysburg then put up five runs in the fifth, which included an RBI-single from Simon, a bases-loaded walk from junior Mike Kielbasa (Ludlow, Mass./Loomis Chaffee School), and a two-run single from Zanghellini that put the Bullets back on top. Senior Ben Roessle (Summit, N.J./Summit) added a sacrifice fly that pushed the lead to 7-5.

Muhlenberg greeted Lawrence with two runs on two hits, a hit batsman, and an error to pull even in the sixth. But in the bottom of the inning, senior Austin Davis (New York, N.Y./Riverdale Country School) almost single-handedly reclaimed the lead for Gettysburg. He drew a leadoff walk versus reliever Zach Hoffman before he was bunted to second by senior Patrick O'Grady (Floral Park, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy). He went on to score all the way from second on a wild pitch that bounced off the plate and rolled to the far left side of the backstop, as he slid under a late throw from catcher Conor McDermott to a covering Hoffman at the plate.

Gettysburg broke it open with a four-run, five-hit seventh.

Lawrence (3-0) retired nine of his final 10 batters and was the beneficiary of an outstanding defensive play by Zangellini at shortstop in the eighth. After the Mules led off with a single, Robbie Hopes' hard-hit grounder bounced off the lip of the infield and appeared to be headed over Zanghellini's head. But he leaped high in the air to come down with the ball, then started a 6-4-3 double play. Lawrence would go on to retire his last four batters.

Kielbasa scored three runs in the game while Davis and LeNoir each crossed the plate twice.

Hoffman (0-1) was handed the loss, allowing one run in a third of an inning pitched.

Gettysburg returns to Centennial Conference play on Tuesday, when it visits McDaniel College at 3:30 p.m.
