GETTYSBURG, Pa.  – Junior Emily Hall (Reston, Va./Flint Hill School) drove in four runs and junior Lindsey Treanor (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) threw six scoreless innings to lift Gettysburg College to an 8-0 victory in the nightcap of a Centennial Conference doubleheader against Ursinus College Sunday afternoon.

Gettysburg (13-6, 3-3 CC) split the doubleheader as Ursinus (6-12, 2-6 CC) scored the game-winning run in the fifth inning of a 5-4 decision in the opening game.

Making its home debut, Gettysburg went without a hit in the first three innings of game one. However, the Bullets brought across a run in the home half of the first to tie the game as junior Melissa Tighe (Little Falls, N.J./Mt. St. Dominic) drew a lead-off walk and eventually came around to score on a sacrifice fly by senior Maggie Maguire (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand).

All was quiet until the top of the fourth when the Bears put three runs on the scoreboard courtesy of a blast over the fence by Zoe Heinke.

The Bullets answered in the bottom of the frame with three runs. Each of the first four hitters posted singles with sophomore Meghan Hisgen (East Northport, N.Y./Commack) and Hall driving in a run. An RBI single by senior Brooke Kalman (Edgemont, Pa./Penncrest) later in the inning tied the game 4-4.

Ursinus picked up the go-ahead run in the fifth inning as Deanna Madison smashed a triple off the wall in center to plate the runner from first base.

Despite singles by freshman Jamie Abell (Glenn Dale, Md./Elizabeth Seton) and sophomore Steph Zengel (High Bridge, N.J./North Hunterdon) in the seventh, Gettysburg was unable to bring the tying run across as the Bears picked up a pair of force outs at third base.

Zengel and Hisgen each went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI for Gettysburg. Sophomore Michelle Fox (Newton, N.J./Blair Academy) fell to 6-3 with the loss after allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits.

Caitlin Whelan tossed 3 2/3 scoreless innings in relief to earn the win for Ursinus.

Gettysburg jumped out of the gates early in the second game with four runs in its first at bat. Hall provided the big blow with a three-run double with two outs and she scored the final run of the inning on a double steal.

After giving up a pair of hits in the opening frame to Ursinus, Treanor settled in and allowed only three more base knocks over the final five innings. She improved to 7-3 with the victory.

Gettysburg picked up one run in the fifth and three more in the sixth to end the game. Hisgen posted a two-run double to left in the final inning and came around to score on a double by Hall to close the day.

Abell reached base in all four of her plate appearances, going 3-for-3 with a walk, two runs, and two stolen bases. Hisgen finished 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI, while Hall went 2-for-4 with a run and four RBI.

Gettysburg visits Lebanon Valley College for a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday, April 8, at 3 p.m.
