NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Regional Championship
GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship will march on at Clark Field as Gettysburg College will serve as one of four sites for this weekend's regional round.
Gettysburg (17-2) will welcome Middlebury College (12-5), Fredonia State University (12-6), and Trinity (Conn.) College (16-2) to campus for the next two rounds on May 17-18. The sixth-ranked Bullets will meet the ninth-ranked Panthers in Saturday's opening game at 11:30 a.m., while No. 3 Trinity will tackle Fredonia State in the second game at 2:30 p.m. Sunday's regional championship will take place at 3 p.m.
Ticket prices for each day are $3 for adults, $2 for students, and $1 for children ages 3-12. Children under the age of three are admitted free. Gates will open at 10:15 a.m. on Saturday and 1:45 p.m. on Sunday. Pets are not permitted within the gated area.
Gettysburg defeated Cabrini College 19-6 in the second round of the national tournament at Clark Field on May 10. The Bullets received an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship after winning its ninth Centennial Conference championship with a win over Franklin & Marshall College. The team is its 14th appearance in the NCAA playoffs.
Middlebury took down Endicott College 19-7 in its NCAA opener. The Panthers were ousted by Colby College in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) quarterfinals and received an at-large berth to the national tournament. Middlebury, which has claimed five national titles, is in the NCAA Tournament for the 20th year.
Saturday's contest with Middlebury is a rematch of the 2012 NCAA regional title game at Clark Field won by the Panthers 15-9. The game will also feature two of the top five coaches by wins in NCAA history. Fredonia advanced to the next round by knocking off Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute 9-8 over the weekend. The Blue Devils received an at-large bid to the tournament after falling to eighth-ranked SUNY Geneseo in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) semifinals. Fredonia is making its second national playoff appearance.
Trinity opened with a 16-4 win over Castleton College in the second round of NCAAs. The Bantams earned an automatic bid to the tournament after downing Amherst College in the NESCAC title game. Trinity, which won the national title in 2012, is making its 10th appearance in the NCAA Championship.
Gettysburg College will also host the semifinals and championship of the NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship on May 24-25.
