Box Score 2 ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Gettysburg College volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 win over Rowan University before capturing an epic five-set victory over host Elizabethtown College in a non-conference tri-match Friday evening.

Playing back-to-back matches, the Bullets (8-4) opened with a 25-14, 25-20, 25-21 win over the Profs before jumping to a 2-0 lead over the Blue Jays, winning the opening two sets 25-15 and 25-21. However, E-town rallied with 27-25 and 25-23 victories to force a fifth and final set. The Jays led 13-9 before Gettysburg finished on a 7-1 tear to take the set 16-14 and the match 3-2.

In the fifth set, freshman
Stephanie Blair (Chester, N.J./West Morris Mendham) served up an ace to make it 13-11. A ball-handling error against the Blue Jays prompted an E-town timeout, but the hosts were serving for match point at 14-12. But that's when juniors
Courtney Morrow (Greenlawn, N.Y./Harborfields) and
Joosje Grevers (Westport, Conn./Staples) came to the rescue. The pair combined for a block to make it 14-13 before Morrow threw down a solo block to draw the Bullets even. Grevers put the Bullets ahead with a kill before Morrow's kill clinch the victory and ended a match that lasted two hours and nine minutes.

Sophomore
Laura Bergin (Charlottesville, Va./Western Albemarle) led the Bullets with 27 kills on the night, including 16 against Rowan. Classmate
Hannah Dallman (Fairfax, Va./W.T. Woodson) added a combined 19 kills and hit .359.

The Bullets controlled the match against Rowan (3-5) and trailed only briefly at the start of the first and third sets. Gettysburg led just 13-9 before closing the opening stanza on a 12-4 run while scoring the last four points. The Orange and Blue never trailed in the second set after outscoring the Profs 13-5 to open the period. Rowan closed to within 19-17 before the Bullets finished on an 8-3 spurt.

Gettysburg trailed 3-1 to start the third set before opening up a 9-4 lead. Rowan pulled to within one on two occasions before the Bullets opened up some breathing room with a 6-1 run to go ahead 16-10. Rowan was unable to get closer than three the rest of the way.

Blair added a double-double on 31 assists and 15 digs for the Bullets while senior
Hannah Bentz (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) scooped 18 digs. Morrow contributed four blocks and three aces.

In its first set against Elizabethtown the Bullets continued to roll, trailing only twice in the stanza. Gettysburg led just 14-12 before ending the set on an 11-3 run.

The Bullets were forced to play catch-up in the second set after falling behind 6-2. They trailed 11-8 before taking their first lead of the set following a 5-1 run. Gettysburg still trailed 19-18 before finishing on a 7-2 run.

Gettysburg played from behind again in the third set and erased an early seven-point deficit. After trailing 10-3, the Bullets stormed back with a 12-3 run and would lead 22-20 before the Jays took the set.

In a close fourth set, Elizabethtown for nearly the entire period, though it held more than a four-point lead just once. The Blue Jays carried the momentum into the fifth set, outscoring the Bullets 4-1 and 12-8 before Gettysburg head coach
Leah Bernier called a timeout, setting up the big finish two points later.

Dallman led the Bullets with 13 kills while Grevers had 12 kills. Bergin posted a double-double of 11 kills and 14 digs while Morrow finished with seven blocks. Blair distributed 44 assists, and Bentz had another 22 digs.

Gettysburg picks up its schedule on Wednesday, when it hosts Shenandoah University in a non-conference match starting at 7 p.m.
