Box Score GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Sophomore
Laura Bergin (Charlottesville, Va./Western Albemarle) recorded a dozen kills to lead Gettysburg College to a 3-0 victory over Shenandoah University in a non-conference volleyball match inside Bream Gym Wednesday night.
Gettysburg (9-4) recorded its best attacking night in nearly two years in downing Shenandoah (8-4) in three sets (25-21, 25-16, 25-16). The Bullets posted an attack percentage of .319 and committed only eight errors, marking the team's best offensive display since notching a .325 percentage and eight errors against Muhlenberg College on Oct. 20, 2012.
Shenandoah stayed with the hosts for most of the opening set and trailed just 20-19 after a kill by Rachel Cerretani. Bergin came right back with a kill for Gettysburg and junior
Courtney Morrow (Greenlawn, N.Y./Harborfields) helped polish off the set by teaming with Bergin for a block and then knocking home the winning kill.
Gettysburg owned the final two frames, capitalizing on a number of Hornet errors in the second set and then simply dominating on the attack in the third frame. The Bullets connected on 15 kills with just one error in 25 attempts (.560) to seal the win.
Bergin posted her 10th double-figure kill outing of the season and contributed six digs and four blocks. Morrow finished with seven kills and five blocks, while junior
Joosje Grevers (Westport, Conn./Staples) posted six kills.
Freshman
Stephanie Blair (Chester, N.J./West Morris Mendham) tallied 30 assists, four kills, two aces, 10 digs, and three blocks in an all-around effort. Freshman
Katherine Gilbert (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep) led the defense with 11 digs and turned in a pair of aces, while junior
Alesha Miller (New Oxford, Pa./New Oxford) tallied 10 digs and two aces.
Rachel Gross led Shenandoah with nine kills and Elizabeth Lamont put up nine digs.
Gettysburg visits Ursinus College for its Centennial Conference opener this Saturday, Sept. 20, at 12 p.m. The Bullets will also face Manhattanville College at 2 p.m.
