GETTYSBURG, Pa.  – An extra hour of prep time must have been a good thing for the Gettysburg College volleyball team as the Bullets knocked off both Washington College and Kean University in three sets inside Bream Gym on Saturday.

The start time of each of Saturday's matches was pushed back as Washington College's bus broke down on the way to Gettysburg. Once the Shorewomen arrived, they were quickly welcomed to a strong Gettysburg (13-5, 2-0 CC) attack as the hosts hit .323 on the way to a 25-15 win in the opening frame. The Bullets took set two by the same score and appeared on the verge of an easy Centennial Conference victory.

Washington (10-5, 0-2 CC) rallied from an eight-point deficit to tie the third set 20-20 following a kill by Hannah Spohn. Gettysburg would have match point in its grasp three times, but the Shorewomen rallied. Tied at 25, the visitors served the ball into the net and the Bullets capped the win with an emphatic block by freshman Cara Stine (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) and sophomore Laura Bergin (Charlottesville, Va./Western Albemarle) to win 27-25.

Bergin finished with a match-high 14 kills and nine digs. Freshman Stephanie Blair (Chester, N.J./West Morris Mendham) seemed to be everywhere on the court as she tallied four kills, 27 assists, and a season-high 21 digs. Junior Hannah Dallman (Fairfax, Va./W.T. Woodson) totaled six kills and three aces, while Stine finished with five kills and six blocks, including three of the solo variety. Junior Hannah Bentz (Shrewsbury, P./Susquehannock) put up 16 digs.

Kristin Lee posted seven kills and 18 digs, while Jess Daunoras added seven kills and four blocks for Washington.

Gettysburg received another long respite as Kean (6-10) narrowly missed taking down Washington in five sets. The Cougars carried that momentum into the early stages of their match with the Bullets. Kean led the majority of the opening set before a five-point run by the hosts made it 18-16. Gettysburg would go on to win the set 25-23 on a perfectly-placed push by Blair down the right line.

Gettysburg led from nearly start-to-finish in a 25-18 decision in the second frame, but Kean took advantage of several errors to jump out a 6-0 lead in the third set. The Bullets recovered quickly with a 12-3 run to take the lead for good on the way to a 25-19 win.

Bergin and Dallman each finished with seven kills, while Stine posted six kills and five blocks. Blair totaled 25 assists and nine digs and Bentz put up 16 digs.

Jen Espinal led Kean with a dozen kills and she put up 19 digs, while Elizabeth DeGroot recorded 23 digs.

Gettysburg returns to action next Saturday, Oct. 4, with a tri-match at Haverford College. The Bullets face the host Fords at noon before battling Baruch College at 2 p.m.
