Box Score GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Senior
Eliza Gray (South Orange, N.J./Columbia) made four saves and tied the Centennial Conference record for career shutouts as the Gettysburg College women's soccer team played undefeated McDaniel College to a 0-0 tie in Centennial Conference (CC) action Wednesday evening at Clark Field.
Â
Gray earned her 35th clean sheet to equal the mark set by Haverford's Robin Chernow from 2011-14. It was also her ninth shutou of the season – just one shy of the Gettysburg record that she shares.
Â
The Bullets (7-2-5, 4-2-1 CC) fired off 12 shots but could not solve McDaniel keeper Sarah McDonald, who made eight stops. The Green Terror took 11 shots but Gettysburg's back row allowed just four on goal.
Â
With three matches left, Gettysburg finds itself in fifth place in the conference standings, trailing Ursinus by two points.
Â
The Green Terror (13-0-2, 5-0-2 CC), ranked 20th by
D3soccer.com, has now tied its last two matches after opening the season on a 13-game winning streak.
Â
Neither side was able to generate much offense in the opening half, though McDaniel was able to pile up seven corner kicks. Gettysburg gained its first corner with less than a minute a remaining, but the Green Terror knocked away the kick from sophomore
Jessica Cuttone (Mahwah, N.J./Mahway). Gettysburg finished with a slim 4-2 shot advantage in the opening period.
Â
McDaniel outshot the Bullets 6-4 in the second half, when Gray made all of her saves. Nicole Hill, who entered the match leading the Terror with 10 goals, took a pair of dangerous shots midway through the half. But her blast through traffic in the 67th minute just missed the left post, and her rip from the left wing was corralled by Gray in the 74th minute.
Â
In overtime, Gettysburg had an outstanding scoring opportunity when senior
Lauren Schapiro (Stamford, Conn./Stamford) was awarded a free kick just outside the box, but her shot from the right side sailed just high.
Â
The Bullets also had a good look at the net in the second extra session, but McDonald made a diving save on a shot from junior
Hannah Theurer (Darnestown, Md./Northwest) with just under five minutes.
Â
Gettysburg finished with a 12-11 edge in shots while McDaniel had an 8-4 advantage in corners.
Â
The Bullets return to action on Saturday, when they visit Muhlenberg College at 2 p.m. in a Centennial Conference affair.
