Kevin Gladstone (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) scored a game-high 16 points but the Gettysburg College men's basketball team lost by a 66-47 count in its season opener at York (Pa.) College in non-conference action Monday evening.
Junior guard
Pete Christ (Pittstown, N.J./Delaware Valley Regional) netted 10 points for the Bullets, who played without two starters from last season due to injury.
York (2-0) never trailed after outscoring the Bullets 19-5 to open the game. Dalton Myers led the hosts with 15 points and seven rebounds while Matt Scamuffo added 12 points and four assists. Chris Conway contributed 11 points for York, which shot 54.3 percent from the field.
The Spartans led by as much as 20 late in the first half before taking a 36-18 lead into the locker room. York then opened the second half on an 11-3 run to open up a 49-21 lead with 14:03 remaining.
Gettysburg used a 16-7 run late in the game to draw to within 16 (62-46) with 1:51 left, but that's as close as the Bullets would get.
Sophomore forward
Matt England (Warrington, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep) netted seven points and shot 5-for-5 at the free-throw for the Bullets while junior forward
Cody Kiefer (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) and junior center
Mlynue Reeves (Washington, D.C/Church Farm School [D.C.]) grabbed six rebounds apiece.
The Bullets host Pitt-Bradford on Friday at 6 p.m. in the first round of the 25th annual Gettysburg Tip-Off Tournament.
