Box Score 2 MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Gettysburg College turned in a lot of work in just 10 innings on the softball diamond on Tuesday, racking up 28 runs in two lop-sided wins at the Fastpitch Dreams Classic in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Gettysburg (5-1) logged two 12-run innings in beating Cazenovia College (1-2) and the College of St. Elizabeth (0-2). The Bullets scored a dozen runs in the opening frame as part of a 16-5 win over the Wildcats before plating the same number in the fifth and final inning in a 12-2 win over the Eagles.
Each of the first seven batters reached base against Cazenovia. Senior
Ashley Iannone (Great Meadows, N.J./Blair Academy) brought in two runs with a single, while sophomore
Jamie Abell (Glenn Dale, Md./Elizabeth Seton) scored two more with her second hit of the frame, a double to left-center. Junior
Meghan Hisgen (East Northport, N.Y./Commack) finished off the scoring with a two-run double to right-center.
After the Wildcats picked up three runs in the bottom of the third, Gettysburg added four more in the top of the fourth, highlighted by another two-run single by Iannone.
Nine players recorded a hit for the Bullets with junior
Steph Zengel (High Bridge, N.J./North Hunterdon) finishing 4-for-5 with three runs and two RBI. Abell, Iannone, and freshman
Stephanie Leonardo (East Haddam, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall) each tallied three hits with Abell scoring three runs and Iannone driving in four. Hisgen finished 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
Senior
Lindsey Treanor (Holtsville, N.Y./Sachem East) picked up the win after allowing three runs on four hits and striking out five in three innings. Sophomore

St. Elizabeth jumped ahead 2-0 with runs in the first two innings against freshman
Alexa Arnold (Warren, N.J./Watchung Hills Regional). That would be the limit of the scoring for the Eagles. Arnold struck out the side in the third inning and allowed only one runner to get into scoring position in the final three frames. After singling with one out, Julie Rodriguez was gunned down by the Bullets at home plate to close the fourth inning.
Gettysburg posted all of its scoring in the fifth when 16 batters stepped to the dish. The Bullets scored a dozen runs with the help of seven hits, three walks, and three errors. Hall plated a pair of runs with a triple to left and scored on a triple to right by Hisgen in the very next at bat.
Hall finished 3-for-4 with three RBI and Abell tallied two hits and scored a pair of runs. Arnold earned her first collegiate win after fanning six over five innings of work.
Gettysburg faces off with Meredith College and Albertus Magnus College at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., respectively, on Wednesday, March 11.
