Box Score FORT MYERS, Fla. – Sophomore
Eric Brown (Marriottsville, Md./Marriotts Ridge) and junior
Jonathan Lucido (Woodstock, Md./St. Paul's) combined to throw a 10-hit shutout and the Gettysburg College baseball rolled to its fourth win in a row and its third shutout of the season, blanking Hiram College 6-0 on the third day of the team's Spring Break trip.
Â
The Bullets (4-1) have now allowed just six runs (five earned) over 38 innings pitched during their southern swing.
Â
Brown threw the first 6 1/3 innings and scattered eight hits while striking out two and walking one. Lucido allowed two hits over the final 2 2/3 innings while earning his first collegiate save.
Â
Gettysburg managed just five hits but took advantage of six Hiram errors to score three unearned runs.
Â
Junior
Henry Klimowicz (Allenhurst, N.J./Christian Brothers Academy) provided the Bullets with all the scoring they would need with a two-out, two-run triple in the bottom of the first. Gettysburg tacked on a pair of unearned runs in the second on an RBI-single by senior
Cory Karagjozi (Robbinsville, N.J./Robbinsville) to make it 4-0.
Â
The Bullets would also score single runs in the fourth and the seventh. Sophomore
Will Anderson (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) roped an RBI-double in the fourth before reaching and scoring on errors in the seventh.
Â
Brown (1-0) scattered eight hits and stranded a runner in scoring position in each of the first two innings. He induced inning-ending double plays in both the fifth and sixth but ran into trouble in the seventh, loading the bases with one out. However, Lucido came on to coax a 5-2 fielder's choice followed by a groundout.
Â
Lucido avoided further trouble when he started a 1-6-3 double play to get the first two outs in the eighth. In the ninth, he stranded a runner on second who had reached on an error.
Â
Gettysburg takes a day off on Wednesday before continuing its seven-day, 10-game trip on Thursday, taking on Wisconsin Lutheran College in another single nine-inning game at 10 a.m.
